Centre-back unveiled in Paris after leaving Chelsea

Chelsea defender Alex has on Friday afternoon been unveiled as a new signing of Paris Saint Germain. The centre-back's agent on Thursday confirmed the Brazilian preferred a move to France over the possibility of staying in London and joining Queens Park Rangers. Talks have been taking place though the week between Alex and PSG and a fee, believed to be in the region of €5million (£4.2m), has now been agreed with Chelsea. And on Friday at a press conference, PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti - formerly manager at Stamford Bridge - announced the deal has been done, with Alex signing a two-and-a-half-year contract. The Italian said of Alex: "He will be a PSG player. It was a good opportunity given his price and his desire to join PSG." The 29-year-old had in 2004 joined Chelsea from Santos and was loaned to PSV Eindhoven in the same year of his arrival until 2007. Alex has not played for the Premier League club since the Carling Cup defeat to Liverpool at the end of November, having had a transfer request accepted.
