City boss happy to start February with a win after 'so-so' January

Roberto Mancini felt it was important Manchester City responded to a midweek defeat at Everton by returning to winning ways against Fulham. City suffered a 1-0 reverse at Goodison Park on Tuesday evening and Mancini held his hands up for his role in the Premier League leaders' setback. However, City restored their three-point lead over local rivals Manchester United in the table following a 3-0 home success over Fulham on Saturday. A Sergio Aguero penalty, Chris Baird own goal and Edin Dzeko finish secured the points and satisfied Mancini following an indifferent last month.

Fantastic

"The players were fantastic and played very well. It was not easy as Fulham are a good team," the City manager told ESPN. "This is a very important result after one defeat. We need to fight against the top teams and we need to win. "There are some difficult moments in the season and January for us was so-so. Hopefully now we can continue to win the next game." Mancini also played down an injury to midfielder Samir Nasri after the France international was replaced by James Milner early in the second half. He added: "Samir Nasri had a small problem and in the next few days we can see how he is."
