Dutchman denies giving interview to Spanish newspaper Marca

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has denied saying he would be excited to play for Real Madrid. Spanish newspaper Marca on Friday afternoon quoted the Dutchman as admitting he would be interested in a move to the Bernabeu. Van Persie's Arsenal contract expires in the June of 2013 and his desire to put talks regarding a possible extension on hold until the end of this season has led to speculation. Manchester City and Inter Milan have both been linked with the Premier League's top scorer, but he has rubbished suggestions he wants to listen to an offer from Real.

Star man

Van Persie said on Twitter on Friday night: "Contrary to reports in Spain I have NEVER spoken to Marca newspaper and never gave any interview. Enjoy your day." Ahead of Saturday afternoon's game at Sunderland, the striker has scored an incredible 22 league goals so far this season. Van Persie last weekend hit a hat-trick in the demolition of Blackburn and since inheriting the Arsenal captaincy has become an undisputed star. Marca had quoted the 28-year-old as saying: "I like to know the interest of such an important club like Real Madrid. Of course I'm excited to play there. "I do not think Arsenal agree to negotiate."
