Fowler - Keep the faith

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has told Sky Sports that fellow Reds fans need to keep the faith in Kenny Dalglish.

Liverpool legend is confident Dalglish is the right man for the long term

Ahead of the Merseyside derby, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has called on fellow Reds fans to keep the faith in Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool host neighbours Everton on Tuesday evening and just two points separate the fierce rivals. Despite their recent Carling Cup triumph, Liverpool's league form is anything but inspiring with just one win in eight games, including three successive defeats. Indeed an Everton win on Tuesday evening will see them leap above their rivals, something which Fowler did not see coming earlier in the season. "I think if you look at the start of the season by both clubs, Liverpool were okay and Everton's was horrendous," Fowler told Sky Sports as part of a Barclays Global Fans Survey. "But come March, Everton now have the chance to go above them if they win at Anfield, you would never think that but fair play to Everton they have put a tremendous run together and with Liverpool, Carling Cup aside, their form has not been great.

Unstuck

"But we all know good and well, and it is probably a bit of a cliché in football terms, but form goes out the window in the derby and I can vouch for that. "I have played in a derby where we are massive favourites and have come unstuck, so it is there for Everton to win and it is up to Liverpool to try and stop them and try and give themselves that boost as their confidence is that little bit low at the moment." Fowler is a confirmed fan of Dalglish and insists the club need to look to the long term. "I never played for Kenny but was there and thereabouts in the centre of excellence, but he was brilliant with me and used to take me home, so I have a lot of time for him," Fowler continued. "When he came in he was everyone's choice and was the one who everyone wanted. We have not won a trophy for six years or so then Kenny comes in. And the league has been difficult, it is obviously not what he envisaged [finishing outside the top four] but I think he needs to remain, and will get the success. "I don't think it helps when clubs are changing managers, people are coming in all the time and there can be little stability, so you need somebody to stay and the good thing with Kenny is that he has been in and around the club, so he has seen things and knows the structure of the club."
Stability
Ahead of the derby Fowler also admitted that you cannot have anything but respect for the job being done by David Moyes at Goodison Park. "You talk about stability and he has been there ten years now," he said. "I don't think they have won anything but if you think that he has been there ten years is some record and fair play to him he has got the players on a great run at the moment. He is a very good manager." Fowler is one of those looking forward to the derby, and he admits his travels abroad have shown him just how global these sorts of games have become. "I have been lucky enough to play abroad, Australia and Thailand, and I have watched the Barclays Premier League at all times of night and day," he said. "I know it is watched all over the world and how passionate they are about the league in general and about Liverpool in particular, and you can see how it is a big draw."
