Everton could face Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals

Everton will earn an all-Merseyside FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool if they can beat Sunderland in their quarter-final replay.

Everton and Sunderland will replay at the Stadium of Light after a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

The semi-finals will be at Wembley on the weekend of 14 and 15 April.

The latter date is the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster when 96 Liverpool fans died during an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool have always had special dispensation to avoid matches on that date and boss Kenny Dalglish is confident the Football Association will agree to schedule their tie on the Saturday.

"We won't play on the 15th," he said. "The FA and Uefa have always been exemplary and very supportive, and that's great credit to them.

"We've never played on the 15th before, have we? So there you are. Why would they change now?"

Liverpool faced Everton twice at Wembley in the space of three years, with the Reds winning the finals in 1986 and 1989.

But Everton knocked their neighbours out in the fourth round on the way to the final when they last met in this competition in 2009.

Dalglish believes Everton have a difficult task ahead of them at Sunderland, who were beaten by Liverpool in the 1992 final.

"Merseyside will be hoping Everton get through and they can all have a day out again but it is a real difficult place to go and get a result at Sunderland," he said.

"But that is not our problem - that is theirs to sort out."

Chelsea are attempting to win the cup for the fourth time in the last six years but it is still unclear when they will discover who they will face in the last four.

No date for the rearranged quarter-final between Tottenham and Bolton has been set and Coyle's side's trip to Aston Villa, originally scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed.
