Striker Power Rankings: 20 Hottest Forwards in Europe Right Now

0 of 20

The hottest forwards in Europe can only be judged on one thing, their form in front of goal.

This list takes a look at some of the most in-form strikers in Europe right now and how they stack up. What we're looking at is how well these guys have done in their last 10 games provided the majority, preferably all, of those games have been played this year.

Form is all that matters in this list—not the name, the team or even the competition. If players have a similar statistical line, then the level of competition does factor into things.

20. Konstantinos Mitroglou

1 of 20

Form: 7 Goals in 10 Games

Konstantinos Mitroglou is currently on loan at Atromitos FC from his parent club Olympiakos.

The Greek striker has found form in recent times and has helped his team to third in the Greek Super League.

19. John Guidetti

2 of 20

Form: 7 Goals in 10 Games*

John Guidetti barely gets on this list ahead of some bigger names.

Suspensions and injury kept him out of a number of games so far in 2012, yet he scored seven goals in basically seven appearances this year. He scored two hat tricks in that period.

*Not counting games in 2011, which would have brought his total to 11 goals in 10 games.

18. Fabrizio Miccoli

3 of 20

Form: 7 Goals in 10 Games

Fabrizio Miccoli has turned on the scoring form a little recently, but he's been a pretty productive player overall for Palermo with 12 assists to his name.

He was the second-highest scorer in that Palermo vs. Inter game, as he came up with a hat trick.

17. Diego Milito

4 of 20

Form: 7 Goals in 10 Games

Surprisingly, Inter has an in-form forward right now. What's not surprising is that it's Diego Milito.

The Argentinian is fifth in the scoring charts right now, and his current run of form includes scoring all four goals in a 4-4 draw with Palermo.

16. Antonio Di Natale

5 of 20

Form: 7 Goals in 10 Games

If anyone thought that the departure of Alexis Sanchez might have a negative effect on Antonio Di Natale, they were wrong.

Di Natale has continued to bang in the goals and sits only second on the Serie A scoring chart behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

15. Edinson Cavani

6 of 20

Form: 7 Goals in 10 Games

Edinson Cavani has been no stranger to scoring goals in the past few seasons. He has attracted a lot of attention in recent months, and in his current form, that interest will continue.

14. Joseph Akpala

7 of 20

Form: 8 Goals in 10 Games

Club Brugge's Nigerian forward Joseph Akpala has been in good form since the new year. He has played a major part in the league's current second-place position.

He is currently third on the Belgian Pro League scoring chart.

13. Ola Toivonen

8 of 20

Form: 8 goals in 10 games

Sweden looks like it will have some good firepower going into the Euros. PSV's Ola Toivonen has been in pretty good form this season, and his statistics are seemingly more consistent than others during this 10-game period.

He had three scoreless games but kept up a good ratio of scoring by getting at least one goal in every other game during that segment.

12. Rodrigo Palacio

9 of 20

Form: 8 Goals in 10 Games

Rodrigo Palacio has scored some pretty good goals this season and has had even more competition for goals since the arrival of Alberto Gilardino in January.

The fact that he's on this list is a testament to the good run of form he's in.

11. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

10 of 20

Form: 8 goals in 10 games

A hat trick against Palermo stands out for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his last 10 games.

He did have four scoreless games in that time period, but he is still Milan's most potent threat.

10. Bas Dost

11 of 20

Form: 9 Goals in 10 Games

Considering that Bas Dost is leading the Eredivisie scoring charts with 22 goals, this is no surprise.

Dost's form throughout the season has marked him as one of the players to watch this year, and he continues his good form with this run.

9. Luuk De Jong

12 of 20

Form: 9 goals in 10 games

Luuk De Jong has caught fans' eyes this year, and deservedly so. His form over the last 10 games includes a hat trick and a brace as well as one or two game-winning goals.

8. Mario Gomez

13 of 20

Form: 10 goals in 10 games

Mario Gomez's statistics come out to basically a goal per game. That was helped considerably by his output in two of his most recent games against Basel and Hoffenheim.

Gomez scored four against Basel and three against Hoffenheim with both games coming this month.

7. Wayne Rooney

14 of 20

Form: 10 Goals in 10 Games

Wayne Rooney's recent form has coincided with Manchester United grabbing the top position in the EPL.

While things didn't go so well in the Europa League, even with Rooney scoring three goals over both legs, if Rooney continues this form domestically, then Manchester United has a very good chance of coming away with the title.

6. Robin Van Persie

15 of 20

Form: 10 Goals in 10 Games

Sometimes it looks like Robin van Persie scores every time he is on the field.

That's not the case, though. He had four goalless games in this period but still managed to bang in 10 goals thanks to a hat trick and a couple of braces.

5. Sanharib Malki

16 of 20

Form: 11 Goals in 10 Games

Roda JC is just one spot away from a possible Europa League playoff position thanks to their top scorer and the third-best scorer in the league, Sanharib Malki.

Malki's 11 goals have come in all his 2012 appearances so far, and he and his club will hope the form continues as the Eredivisie winds down.

4. Lima

17 of 20

Form: 11 Goals in 10 Games

Rodrigo José Lima dos Santos, or Lima, is surely a surprise entry on this list, but he's earned it. He only failed to score twice in these 10 games and had a hat trick and brace to offset that.

He's kept Braga within touching distance of Porto and Benfica, and even the much more renown player Hulk isn't in a similar vein of form.

3. Oscar Cardozo

18 of 20

Form: 11 goals in 10 games

Oscar Cardozo has been in good form for Benfica this year. The Paraguayan international only failed to score in two of the last 10 games, which makes him one of the more consistent players on this list.

2. Klaas Jan Huntelaar

19 of 20

Form: 12 Goals in 10 Games

Schalke certainly has to give thanks that Klaas Jan Huntelaar is in the squad.

The Dutch forward has bagged two hat tricks and a brace in the last few games to keep the team in the Europa league and in good standing in the Bundesliga.

1. Lionel Messi

20 of 20

Form: 15 goals in 10 games

It's certainly no surprise that Lionel Messi is at the top of players on this list. His five-goal haul against Bayer Leverkusen really helped things along.

Messi only failed to score in three of those 10 games but has put up numbers like this all season.
