Real Madrid vs. Real Sociedad: 5 Things We Learned in the 5-1 Trashing

0 of 5

Real Madrid managed to put their recent problems behind, as they finally recorded a win in the league. Real Sociedad was the victim, 5-1 was the result.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema scored a brace each, while Gonzalo Higuain also got on the score sheet. Xabi Prieto managed to grab the consollation goal for the visitors, after his shot deflected off Sergio Ramos and over Casillas into the net.

Here I decided to pick the five lessons we learned from this emphatic win.

Let me know if I failed to mention something.

Karim Benzema Back to His Best

Benzema had been in poor form lately.

Although he did score against Malaga, the effects from the injury were clear.

The Frenchman failed to convert a number of chances before grabbing his goal. And after scoring, the situation didn't change much as he missed an absolute sitter.

His poor conversion rate was one of the reasons why Los Blancos failed to beat Malaga. The story was pretty much the same against Villarreal as the Frenchman once again struggled.

Tonight Benzema showed the fans what they were missing while he was sidelined. Two goals and an assist—not bad, not bad at all.

Kaka Should Be Sold This Summer

A passenger for the best part of the game.

Once again Kaka failed to put his mark on the match, although he produced a lovely through-ball for Ronaldo's first goal.

How many more times should the Brazilian be given the chance in the starting 11? In my opinion, no more.

Kaka failed to proved himself time after time, and is representing just another name on the huge wage bill.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian shouldn't be sold for a small amount, and the newly rich Paris Saint-Germain lead by Carlo Ancelotti seem interested.

Benzema and Higuain Can Build a Lethal Partnership

Mourinho has been reluctant to use both of the strikers together for a long time, but tonight they were given an unusual opportunity to prove themselves.

    And they did just that.

Time after time, Benzema and Higuain combined well, and after one such combination Higuain put Real Madrid up 1-0.

The duo were involved in four of Real Madrid's five goals, assisting two and scoring three of them.

Overall, it was a marvellous display from the attacking duo.

Varane Will Be World-Class

4 of 5

Raphael Varane was absolutely fantastic tonight. As far as I could see, the youngster didn't put a foot wrong in the whole match.

The Frenchman seemed calm and experienced, and he maybe even out-performed some of his teammates.

As things currently stand, Jose Mourinho has no reasons to be worried with his defence. He now knows that he has a replacement of great potential for his hot-headed centre-backs.

Cristiano Ronaldo Set for Yet Another Pichichi Trophy?

5 of 5

We're running out of superlatives for this guy.

Although he missed a fantastic chance early in the match, he more than made up for it with two well taken goals.

Ronaldo grabbed his 100th La Liga goal tonight in his only 92nd game, breaking the club's previous record held by Ferenc Puskas who needed 115 games to reach the milestone.

Later in the same match, he completed his brace and is now tied at 35 goals with his arch-rival Lionel Messi in the Pichichi trophy race.
