Chelsea Transfer Marko Marin Is a Great Acquisition for the Blues

Earlier today, it was announced that Chelsea had bought the rights to Werder Bremen winger Marko Marin for a reported £7 million.
Following the announcement of the move, Marin was elated to join the London-based club, saying, "I had a really good time with Werder, together with many great guys here, and I have lots of nice memories, but I am looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League with such an established club."
Marin, who is just 23 years old, has been one of the top wingers in the Bundesliga during the last several years but has suffered injuries this year. But he still has been able to record five assists and is among the leaders in the Bundesliga with an average of 1.9 key passes per match.
Despite having a solid stat sheet this season, Chelsea did not acquire the young player for this season's performance. Instead, they bought his rights due to his great play from the last several years.
In his last four years with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bremen, Marin has 49 assists, which has annually put him among the top ten in the league in the category.
No other player in the Bundesliga was able to remain among the top ten players in assists during the past three years except for Marin.
Considering the age that Marin is at, it will be expected that he will only continue to register even more assists per season, especially with a club like Chelsea that has more talented goal scorers than Bremen.
Marin should also become a starter at Chelsea following his move. With the youth movement that has taken place at the club during the last year and with a stronger passing philosophy than the one that had been previously used, Marin will have bigger role with the club.
That vision that Marin possesses on offense is something that is rarely seen in the Premier League. In a league that physicality and strength are more common than the ability to make strong passes.
Marin can easily use that passing ability to become one of the most valuable players in the EPL and will make Chelsea's already-strong midfield even stronger.
This move also makes lots of financial sense for Chelsea. Marin, who has been a part of the German national team, would see his transfer price go up following the completion of the tournament.
According to TransferMarkt's website, Marin's price has plateaued and started to fall at the beginning of this year. That fall is due in large part to the injuries that Marin compiled.
Even though Marin has not played for Germany since 2010, he could still make the German national team in time for Euro 2012. If he is able to get onto the roster, there is a chance that he could make a role as a substitute.
Marin did play in the 2010 World Cup with Germany and made two appearances as a substitute in the group stage.
Chelsea have recognized this possibility, and they are strongly banking on this chance.
Considering how much of upside that can come from a player like Marin, Chelsea will become that much better as a club.
