MLS Weekly Roundup: Rosario's First Goal, Henry's Injury, Dynamo's New Home

0 of 7

There's no one even close to Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference and the San Jose Earthquakes are leading the pack in the West.

And yes, Toronto is still the worst MLS team you've ever seen. Stop piling on.

But what else is going on in Major League Soccer?

    Glad you asked.

Here's the weekly recap of what you might have missed.

Eddie Johnson Fined for Flipping off the Fans

1 of 7

Eddie Johnson scored the winning goal in his Seattle Sounders 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire this weekend.

But a dust-up between the two teams at the end of the game raised tensions, and the Seattle forward made an obscene gesture to fans as he left the field.

The MLS disciplinary committee took exception and fined the player an undisclosed amount.

    Whatever happened to "Freebird?"

Toronto Still Sucks

2 of 7

    Okay, so we'll pile on.

Toronto played again. They lost again. Do you sense a pattern here?

The club's 0-7 record ties them for the worst start to a season in MLS history. Ironically, the team that holds the other half of that record? The now renamed Sporting Kansas City went 0-7 to begin the 1999 season.

So there's hope. On the pattern shown by SKC this season, Toronto can look forward to having the hottest team in the league...13 years from now.

Dwayne De Rosario Finally Scores

3 of 7

We all knew it was coming. But did anyone really expect it to take this long for Dwayne de Rosario to hit his first goal of the season?

Canada's best-ever player hasn't been playing badly, and DC United are second in the East. But it wasn't until Saturday against Houston that he finally found the back of the net.

I fully expect a pair of hat tricks in the next couple games as DeRo looks to make up for lost time.

Troy Perkins Gets Cleated in the Face

4 of 7

Portland goalkeeper Troy Perkins suffered one of the scariest looking injuries I've seen lately when Montreal forward Sanna Nyassi accidentally cleated him in the face during a collision.

Nyassi was chasing a ball into the box, when Perkins came sliding out and Nyassi's lunging effort found the keeper's head.

Portland lost the game 2-0, but have to be happy that Perkins came out of the incident not much worse for wear.

Houston Dynamo Cut Ribbon on New Stadium

5 of 7

The Houston Dynamo cut the ribbon at BBVA Compass Stadium this week. The downtown venue will seat 22,000 for Dynamo home matches.

Houston's first home game in the new stadium will be May 12th against D.C. United.

Forgive me my excitement, but I've been alive longer when the United States didn't have a professional league than I have now that we do.

Each new stadium lends a bit more permanence to the league. For those of us who remember a time before MLS, that's a fantastic development.

Thierry Henry Gets Himself Injured

6 of 7

Thierry Henry is the best player in MLS. He's been on fire so far this season as he burst out to the scoring lead.

On Saturday, he pulled up lame with an injury to his hamstring during the New York Red Bulls' 1-0 win against the New England Revolution.

Henry will be out 3-4 weeks, and MLS will be poorer for his absence.

What Is Simon Borg Talking About?

7 of 7

During this week's edition of the MLS podcast Extra Time, commentator Simon Borg disparaged female "superfans" saying they're a turn-off.

Feminist groups will cry foul, and politically-correct commentators will take him to task for insensitivity, but I'd just like to point out that Borg is just incredibly, ridiculously wrong.

Having spent the summer of 2010 in South Africa for the World Cup and having seen the inside of more than my fair share of MLS stadiums, just let me say that the women who show up with team-colored bikinis and logos painted on their cheeks are anything but a turn-off.

So shut up Simon, you're messing things up for the rest of us.
