Manchester City: 5 Things Winning the Title Would Mean for the Blues

0 of 5

For Manchester City, the title race looked all but over a couple weeks ago.

Now they sit proudly on top of the table ahead of rivals United–albeit only on goal difference.

Wins in their two remaining games against Newcastle and QPR would ensure the title heads to the Blue quarter of Manchester for the first time since 1968.

A City triumph would have wide-ranging implications for the Premier League as a whole, but here's what it'll mean to the Blues.

Quieten the Noisy Neighbours

Nothing would please the City fans more than to beat their arch rivals to the most hotly contested prize in football.

For years, Blues' supporters have had to sit back and watch while their noisy neighbours won title after title, but now is their chance to get one back.

Silencing the Red Devils will bring unparalleled joy to the famously vociferous home crowd at the Etihad, and you can bet they won't let them forget it for a while!

Immortalize the Players

This group of City players are regarded by the vast majority of fans to be the best the Blues have ever enjoyed.

And the pundits agree, waxing lyrical about the early season form of David Silva, and the tireless performances of Yaya Toure.

With a Premier League title to their name, there would be no denying that they stand amongst the very best City teams and possibly even amongst the best teams ever to participate in the Premier League era.

Players such as captain Vincent Kompany would gain hero status at the club, as would other stalwarts: Joe Hart, and the aforementioned duo of Silva and Toure.

Secure Mancini's Position

After crashing out of both domestic cups, the Champions League, and the Europa League, Mancini's position seems to be precarious at best.

Speculation has been mounting as to whether he will be in the City dugout next season, but having dragged his side back into the title race, his position looks decidedly more secure.

Winning the premiership would not only cement his place as City's manager, but would seal his place in the history books as one of the most successful of all time.

If so, don't be surprised if a eulogizing statue of the man is erected in the coming years.

Break Their 44-Year Duct

44 years is a long time to wait for anything, never mind waiting to see your team lift a league trophy!

Since they last won a top flight domestic title, 10 different league champions have been crowned, including the likes of Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers.

Not since they last won it in 1968 have the Citizens been in such a strong position, and throwing it away now seems almost unthinkable.

A Huge Weight Will Be Lifted

When Sheikh Mansour bought the club he clearly had one thing in mind: winning trophies.

People don't buy big football clubs to make money, because they simply don't turn a profit.

They buy them for personal pleasure and to satisfy a degree of personal fantasy–and sometimes to save their supported club, but certainly not in this case.

Having won only one trophy during his four years in charge, the Sheikh must be getting restless, and it is now up to his minion Mancini to deliver the goods.

If he can pull it off, Mancini will have several hundred tonnes of pressure lifted from his shoulders.
