Let me stay! Agger tells Liverpool not to sell him to champions City

Daniel Agger has told Liverpool he wants to stay with the club despite interest from Manchester City.

The Danish defender has been subject of two rejected bids from the Premier League champions while also attracting interest from Barcelona.

His new manager Brendan Rodgers, while expressing his desire to keep hold of the 27-year-old, admitted every player had their price, even one as vital as Agger.

However speaking to one of his nation's leading newspapers, the player insists he is yet to be told of the interest from the Etihad, and that we wouldn't entertain it should Liverpool see fit to inform him.

Agger, who is on international duty ahead of a friendly against Slovenia, told Politiken: 'I have not been told anything by the club regarding the transfer. It is not up to me to judge whether it’s weird or not. That is how the club has decided that it should be. I can not do anything.

'This period is every year, but I take it quietly with a smile. There has not been anything from the club so far, there’s no reason for me to be worried. I know there has been something from Manchester City, but I don't know what Liverpool thinks of it.

'I'm fine with my situation. The club must find out what they want. I have heard nothing from them. I’d rather be here, but it’s not me who has the decision at the moment.

'Liverpool may just make the transfer, even though I have two years left. But no, I have not changed my mind on the subject when I said I will not play for other English clubs than Liverpool, but sometimes you can still get in a situation where it’s not your decision.

'I will not stay in a place where I am not wanted, but I’d rather be here. This is my priority.'

Agger, who is known for his extravagant body art, seemingly signalled his intent to remain on Merseyside last week when he appeared at the Melwood training base with a new tattoo; the letters YNWA (Liverpool's motto You'll Never Walk Alone) on the fingers of his right hand.

Discussing his latest markings, he added: 'It has nothing to do with my current situation. It is a gesture towards the Kop, towards Liverpool and towards the people around the club.'
