I still have treble hope chance says Wenger

ARSENE WENGER is dreaming of a treble. Not the big one that Sir Alex Ferguson is after, but a Champions League, FA Cup and top-four finish.

Wenger believes his side can progress in all competitions starting with Blackburn in the FA Cup Wenger believes his side can progress in all competitions starting with Blackburn in the FA Cup

The Arsenal manager believes his team can win the Champions League if they beat in-form Bayern Munich in the last 16.

But first, his priority is to reach the last eight of the FA Cup with a victory over Blackburn today, while the relentless pursuit of Tottenham will continue in the fight for fourth.

“If we get past Bayern, then why should we not go further and win it?” said Wenger bullishly.

“The FA Cup is obviously more winnable than the Premier League, because we are too far away in that. But the priority is always the league.”

Arsenal have never lost an FA Cup tie to lower-league opposition under Wenger and although Bradford knocked them out of the Capital One Cup this season, he does not expect an upset today.

“We always take the FA Cup seriously,” he said.

“We prepare for the game like a final every time and that’s why we have done reasonably well until now.

“You ask me if it’s better to sacrifice Bayern Munich and focus on Blackburn? The important thing is to focus on the two.

“The players are focused on Blackburn completely. They know as well there is an opportunity there – the quarter-final – and they don’t want to miss that.” Wenger is taking inspiration for the Bayern game from beating Real Madrid in the Bernabeu seven years ago, when his team were struggling in the league and facing a side stuffed with Galacticos.

“When we went to Real Madrid a few years ago they had Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Raul and Guti and we beat them. We were fourth or fifth in the league so it’s just down to us to believe we can do it,” he said.

“We have a chance to beat Bayern and we have to take it. We want to beat the best.

“We are a stronger team than we were in November but I can talk and talk. We must show it on the pitch. We have more confidence and Jack Wilshere back at a good level. We know each other better and overall we are more stable.”

Wilshere will be rested today after picking up a knock at Sunderland last Saturday, but Thomas Vermaelen will return to get vital match-fitness after missing two games with an ankle injury.
