E3 will be interesting. Phil has stated that he'd rather go for a substantial upgrade rather than an Xbox 1.5 and he also talked about future Xbox consoles being forward and backward compatible ,this means any new console from MS in 2016 or 2017 will obviously still play Xbox One games and hopefully Xbox 360 games too.

I very much doubt MS would risk it.

I am really happy with both MS and Sony for coming out with a new more powerful console. Lets be honest here, this generation has been great but the performance of many games have been hindered. And please dont be that person that says but it was only the X1 that had problems, that is not the case at all, both the X1 and PS4 have had numerous performance issues with games throughout the years since release (enough of the fanboy crap). As long as they do not force any people to update i have absolutely no issues with this ( I mean that as long as all the games will play on both versions of the console). Kudos to both though for these decisions as i definitely feel its in the right direction, both consoles launched with pretty gimp hardware (directly comparing it to PC hardware that is available).

O and yes i know neither of these consoles have been confirmed but my statement stands because the speculation is there and even devs have even come out about the new consoles and how they feel.

I would like to see a halo 6 that matches the epilogue cut scene of Halo 5 and improved ai count and intelligence, and boss battles that matches dark souls if played on legendary, even tho the triple wardens and hunters were a nightmare.

If in fact this is the case, I would imagine that would upset people who invested in Xbox One more than early adopting PS4. This would be an actual successor a little over 3 full years in. It'd also give them a headstart on the new generation over Sony, so there's that.

It wouldn't surprise me if they jump to an entirely new console that is a lot more in line with current high end PC graphics cards. They need to shed the Xbox One name quickly with all the damage that was done at the reveal. The box was taken in the wrong direction by Mattrick and they know it. As long as it's backward compatible with X1 and 360 games I don't see an issue with it.. Don't forget how they killed the OG Xbox to jump ahead of the PS3.. Possibly Microsoft looked at the spec sheet of PS4 "Neo" and decided straight away they needed to respond - business-wise and being the sole competitor of Sony.

It's a safe bet the next xbox will release and be backward compatible with XO which would be forward compatible(to a degree hopefully) if it's just a more powerful XO like thr ps neo is for ps4 then i don't want it. Give me a legit console with it's own identity.

We will know in just a little over a month. I for one am open to upgraded across both platforms. I don't have a Xbone yet but if they really do release one, I am going to buy one for my birthday in October. There has been a couple exclusive I have wanted but just haven't pulled the trigger yet due to working on getting some funds together for a PC. Scalebound always looked too ambitious for the current hardware so I wonder how long they've actually had this planned for.

Maybe the lack of specs from Microsoft just means they're releasing a slim XB1, with the same specs, but manufactured at 14nm, instead of 28nm.
The way Phil was talking before it sounded more like Microsoft wants to go down the upgrade capable route, so it's possible that Microsoft box will have it's APU and DDR3 modules built on an MCM which you can swap out, no need for screw drivers or anything like that, just un-clip and replace.

I've seen people talking about eSRAM, like they think that may cause issues, but going to 14nm Microsoft could add in more of that cache onto their APU die or maybe include a small amount of HBM (like 512MBs), which would be able to handle all of the bandwidth needs of eSRAM, same goes for GDDR5 chips.

I guess we'll find out at some point this year.
