Interestingly enough the reply varies between Sony and Microsoft at this point due to their shifting ideologies.

Sony:If the PS4K is mostly intended for PSVR, then it's a clear-cut decision.. if you want to play PSVR you need to get the 4K, and VR games should clearly state they're for the PS4K. So if you don't plan on getting a PSVR there's no NEED to upgrade your console.. so no need to offer a promotion to do so. All non-VR games should then work until they release PS5 many many years down the road.

Microsoft: If Microsoft plans on releasing new variants every few years, they should offer trade-in promotions. As someone already stated, at some point several years down the road, there's going to need to be a hard cutoff.. if you have a version older than x, new games won't work on your console variant. (much like Apple has done with certain Apps that require the iPhone 5s or newer) They should also have a better naming schema to help differentiate between the versions, and ditch the reputation that the name "Xbox One" carries.

What was micro-transaction to gaming which completely sucked the fun out of it, this new idea of upgraded system is gonna be the same. I'm fine with my PS4 and expect to get another 5 years out of it before buying a new console. Long as the games still play great I don't need to upgrade.

Of coarse they will offer trade in deals. They did it with last gen consoles and they will do it now. I really don't care if they offer it or not tho, I plan to upgrade both my current generation consoles for these anyway.

I'm sure in the U.S. Gamestop will come out with a promotion to trade in your old console and get a specified store credit to apply to the new consoles. That said, I'll keep my old ones and use them on other tvs for movies, netflicks, general entertainment, and some games.

Why should they? You paid for your console you got what you paid for. You had to know at some point a refresh or replacement was coming given how fast technology is changing now. I am fine with the current X1 & Ps4, but I am certainly upgrading to the more powerful counterparts, so as a console only gamer, I am happy as a fiddle. Sony & MS don't have to give me one nickel for trade in, besides, no one forces you to buy. If you don't upgrade you will be playing the games as you normally were anyway so this is a win win as far as I am concerned. If you don't think so, then don't buy either of the refreshed boxes.

With Windows 10 Microsoft changing Xbox Eco system. They making universal platforms. If you had a Windows machines then you able to play games with one account to all of them. Means Xbox or PC will be the same Windows system actually. Xbox Brand system or Windows 10 does not matter anymore because they are under the same OS! If you want play every games 60+ FPS and 4K standart resolation go with powerfull PC Windows 10 platform. If you don`t want to pay lots of money for gaming go with Xbox platform. Of course less graphics power will get hurts your eyes too after 1-2 years.

Sony doing more like Apple Eco system. Every 3 years they build new playstation machines and will be able to play old gen Playstation apps and games. Not anymore 5 or 6 years wait for new generations game consoles i think. Did i like that? No! Because i even not change my phone until my phone get broken or get useless. And still i`m using Iphone 5 and Ipad Air! Of course games not gone show same performance and visuals details on old Playstation or Xbox consoles but those systems still gets new games and apps for couple years more. So if you had a PS4 and if you don`t have to rush for 4K videos or VR bundles so you don`t need a buy new PS4 Neo system. You can wait for until PS5 or what ever names it relaese to market because you can still play same games with PS4 NEO owner. Just visually little bit less detail and resolations or frame rates i think.

And i`m really unhappy with that because i don`t like to pay lots money for playing games and when i had a Ps4 system than new PS4 version coming to market it`s bothers me and i don`t know why :D Like i feel my system it`s old and this is really bothers me! I hope I`m thinking wrong but seems every single rumor show us the `Console Gaming` going to little bit more like PC or Phone market standarts. And i really hate that.

Maybe the rumored PS4 Neo is in fact a PS5 slated for 2019 release date. Console manufacturers are spending billions of dollars for R&D and 3-4 years development of the console successor before they release it.

Just like Ps4 when the first rumor came out in 2010, it was stated in the news that the Alpha SDK of PS4 was in fact based on a Quad core AMD A10 processor instead of Jaguar. So it all makes sense Sony to start inventing on the PS5 R&D at this early stage, instead of just upgrading it.

I have a feeling that the PS4K is just a minor upgrade to support 4K TVs or UHD playbacks.

I'm sure the store will regardless, it wouldn't enough for me to pick either up day 1 though. I'll probably not upgrade unless my consoles die, would rather wait for the upgrade after the Neo and Scorpio.

I guess but what sucks is i have the beautiful white destiny ps4, don't care for the game but the console itself is gorgeous. I am a day 1 PS4 owner, had it for almost 3 years now. So I wouldn't be too bothered to spend another $400 for a greatly improved console.

Depends... Sony releasing this year with their large established user base may anger many...MS releasing in 2017 with a smaller but established user base than Sony makes a new system easier to deal with and will probably anger a smaller percentage as opposed to Sony and its fans. Also, It wasn't that long ago where the average life span of a console was 4 to 5 years. MS releasing a new system/upgrade at the 4 year mark is not unheard of. So, I guess it wouldn't hurt either MS or Sony to try and offer a trade in rebate, but I don't think they should be obligated to do so. These new consoles will be advertised as ready for VR. If it wasn't for VR we wouldn't be seeing a new console by either Sony or MS for a few more years at least.

There should be a trade-in incentive. Not saying give it for free, but slashing £100-£150 off the price when you trade in would be great incentive.

If they want the "hardcore" gamers to bite I think they should. Also casuals are going to buy up the cheaper OG consoles. I'm not supporting this crap... Not at all, these are good machines already with same games and services.
If you favor visuals over all then pc is your place to be, that's said for someone who did not take the plunge, these machines are the most welcomed.

It won't happen and there's zero reason for them to either. Why would they give their new console out free? It'd be cool if they offered a LITTLE bit of a discount or something though if you traded in. Maybe like $50 or $100 off the new console would be a really cool move of good will.
