Mighty No. 9 Looks Mighty Bad

At the end of the article: "Toby Saunders [author of the article] is sometimes opinionated."

You don't say. After reading the article, it seems like nothing would have pleased the author.

wonderfulmonkeyman2891d ago

Agreed.
And it's really sad to see how many people agree with him.
Yeah, the latest trailer had cringe-inducing voice acting and the graphics have downgraded, but the game overall still looks like it'll be a fun experience to play through.
People are taking their graphical obsession to an unhealthy level; I wouldn't be surprised if the next crash happens because of no one buying the good games that deserve sales, due to the eye candy not being sweet enough.

I truly fear for the state of the gaming community.

Nitrowolf22891d ago (Edited 2891d ago )

It's more than just gfx though, it's just overall how the game played from the demo that th3 backers got.

People are right to be angry with how the game turned out if they've already played it and a vast majority of backers don't like it. They simply didn't deliver on their promises especially with gameplay and how the visuals look downgraded

Then again that's also the risk with kickstarter's you never know what you're investing in and it's the same as buying a new game

Double shot and dash to win - the game, doesn't actually look fun. Mighty No 9 has looked like cold garbage from the day gameplay was actually shown.

OhMyGandhi2891d ago

WonderfulMonkeyMan,
you are profoundly uninformed if you think the graphics are the ONLY thing that is wrong with this game. Remember, this game arouse of a Kickstarter campaign, with Keiji Inafune as director. This man has been in this business for a long time. He should know what people want, and most importantly, what expectations people would have because he is attached to the project. You can't hype up "the spiritual successor to megaman" and then delay the game, try (and fail) to launch another game on a separate kickstarter, and then continue to put out trailers that seem to get worse and worse. And this rate, The game is going to look more like Jetpack Joyride then anything resembling the classic blue bomber franchise. People are upset because they released kickass concept art, and it looked to have the beautifully, hand drawn style of Rayman Origins then....well, what they have now.

...what happened?

EddieNX 2891d ago

Agree that people's obsession for graphics is gettin way out of hand. I'd be happy to sit and play a load of SNES games on an old cathode ray tv...

Thankfully we now have the Indie game genre which encourages retro art styles and gameplay.

wonderfulmonkeyman2891d ago

@ Rusted
Complaining about the graphics at the end as your key point, kinda proves my point, dude.

I get that the graphics have taken a hit and that the game was delayed way too much, but in the end, I've played the demo, and IT'S STILL A FUN GAME.

Fin_The_Human2891d ago

All we wanted was Mega Man with updated graphics and controls.

We didn't ask for POS game that plays more like a Strider game than a Mega Man game :(.

This makes me a sad panda.

DivineAssault 2891d ago (Edited 2891d ago )

There's people who base their opinion on graphics alone.. If its fun, play the damn thing period! Its an idie title too so idk what they expect.. It doesnt look that bad.. Ive seen worse indie games.. Many

Well, the author does say that they just didn't care for the game, so there's that.

But even looking past that, I'm admittedly disappointed in what I've seen so far. Inafune asked for funding. He got it (some from me, even). More than he supposedly needed. We've had plural delays. He needed more funding. He got it. The game now looks worse and it doesn't even appear to be 60fps. This just feels very shallow. I don't know if his work on Recore had any effect on Mighty No. 9's development, but it's much worse to upset your consumer backers than a corporate backer if you ask me.

I'll withhold final judgment until reviews roll in and I play the full game myself. But let's be clear: our impressions right now are based on trailers and demos (haven't tried it yet--don't seem to have a download code). And what we can observe are underwhelming gameplay, frame rate that appears to lack optimization despite looking worse. And yes, I'm a gameplay first guy, but it's a side scrolling title with what appears not to be much going on and, yes, it's uglier. Considerably so.

Again, I'll wait on it, but this far along, I don't expect much.

Majister-Ludi2891d ago

I'm sorry but if you looked at that game and thought we got a winner then nothing more can be said.

RashBandicoot2891d ago

Another BS article. Did he even play the game? He's just stating things from a badly edited trailer.

HAHAHA dude, you need to get a bunch of up-votes for the sheer comedic value here.

Kalebninja2891d ago (Edited 2891d ago )

Been a while since a comment made me laugh so hard.

DiscoKid2891d ago

Even though it's overused?

scark922891d ago

You had your moment of fame, now its gone. Its time to let go, and be the person you always wanted to be :')

Null19802891d ago

@scark92 I still gave him an upvote. I'm honored. :) Only funny because his name was first in response when I made this joke a day and 1/2 ago. Cheers!

Pullmywaffle2890d ago

If you think you're the only person to think of mighty no 2, to the point that you're taking screenshots to try and prove it, you really need to get out more.

Null19802890d ago

@pullmywaffle I guarantee you I'm not the first person to make the joke. I'm just saying 343_Guilty_Spark in particular got it from me. Look, his name was the first to comment on mine. No big deal. Sorry I upset you so much by posting that.

Genaral Leo2891d ago

If it plays well and has great level design, I'd be happy.

Segata2891d ago

Does not play well. I still have it installed as a reminder to never do KS again.

Fin_The_Human2891d ago (Edited 2891d ago )

Doesn't play well or play anything like Mega Man games.

Its more like a fast pace used Strider game.

IWentBrokeForGaming2891d ago

Only game I've backed on Kickstarter was Friday the 13th and that was forever ago. I'm hyped for it cause it's campy horror nostalgia. Also is a sweet plus when the devs stream on Twitch every Friday, are extremely cool/friendly, talk to EVERYONE, and on top of that... They leak screenshots and gameplay footage to you at the end, before anyone else gets to see it! Even the gaming media!

Lol, I literally said that out loud when clicking on this article.

VersusDMC631d ago

Only tried the demos for both and mighty 9 looked atrocious. Megaman 11 was fun and polished. Never played both full versions but will see it they are on PS Extra when i get home.

Mostly get my megaman fix playing the azure gunvolt games and spin offs. And Maverick Hunter X on my Vita.

VersusDMC631d ago

Just tried Mighty No 9 again on PSExtra...graphics are atrocious and taking down enemies by dashing into them feels so hollow.

Kickstarter's Gaming Successes Prove Big Gaming Doesn't Know What Fans Want

Kickstarter has allowed game developers all over the world to bring their respective visions to life, while AAA Studios remains out of touch.

TheEnigma3131513d ago

This is very true. Companies like EA, UBI, MS seem to be disconnected from what fans want.

AK911513d ago

Um I’m not too sure about that check how well those games sold besides the money they got from Kickstarter they didn’t sell nearly as much as most games from publishers (AAA or not).

The unfortunate reality is these days games like Shenmue 3 and Bloodstained are incredibly niche and the only way it could survive is by use of a fan funded website like Kickstarter.

No Man's Sky had the most disappointing launch after the massive hype.

It also had the best turn around of any game.

Today it is basically a mammoth sandbox/city builder/space sim/casual podcast in the background meditative play. Love it right now.

smolinsk1520d ago (Edited 1520d ago )

But you jumped on the hype train without seeing what the game really came with.

Sean Murry absolutely caught up in the hype and talk about future stuff that wasen't there from the start.

But what i was promised before the game came out was an unlimited univers and everybody else was looking forward to just that and nothing else. So he gave us just that..that people could not see the true picture about an Early access kind of game was delusional, it was so clear it was not ready...

akaFullMetal1520d ago

CD3, and ff15, maybe shemue 3, I feel are more recent disappoinments than Duke nukem and perfect dark.

AK911520d ago

Anthem was predicted to be a failure from its beginning especially since the last game Bioware put out was the abomination called Andromeda.
