IGN: Overwhelmingly Positive. Simply worth the wait. Final Fantasy XV: Mother of Reinvention

Final Fantasy XV reinvents the lauded Square RPG again. Check out our impressions after playing the first four chapters.

Snookies122744d ago

I have no doubt in my mind that this game is going to live up to my expectations. Especially since it's been delayed and fine tuned to look and play even better.

AbirHossGaming2744d ago

After all the positive reviews and impressions the game has gotten today from IGN, GAMESPOT, POLYGON, and GAMESRADAR; I have no doubt in my mind this game will!

Princess_Pilfer2744d ago

IGN gave FF13 an 8.9, calling it "Great." So there is that. Just saying. If you want an actual review, you don't go to IGN.

2600Thunder2744d ago

I agree with you that it looks good, but please list other sites that have not perfected the science of steering traffic toward their fabricated, sensationalized click bait articles and reviews.

DeadlyOreo2744d ago

Pirate.

So what if they gave 13 a 8.9? It's actually not a bad game at all. Do you remember when GTA4 got straight 9s and 10s from every reviewer? Nope? I guess you just don't like IGN then.

gangsta_red2744d ago

It can only go up from the dismal FF-13 series right?

sdcard4gb2744d ago

True, but this seems to go waaaaaaay too much in the other direction to be considered a... Improvement, strictly speaking. If anything this seems to be a completely other game franchise altogether.

Kurisu2744d ago

Four friends resembling the four warriors of light traversing a large open world with crystals and summons?

Yeah, totally opposite *rolls eyes*

Eamon2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Bear in mind that this was originally FFvs13, a spin-off. It was made a numbered title because of the huge change it underwent as well as how sky high the budget is.

Although, despite saying that, this is probably a permanent change to the franchise. Not even Final Fantasy VII remake will be turn-based.

NapalmSanctuary2744d ago

@Kurisu
Those are aesthetic elements. I believe he was referring to actual gameplay elements.

Princess_Pilfer2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Am I the only person who sees "reinvent the JRPG" and thinks "oh, so has nothing I actually liked about JRPGs in it?" I mean, that is what happened last time they tried to "reinvent" the series.

I don't go back and play chrono trigger or Persona 4 while secretly wishing I was playing an open world action RPG, I happen to actually like those games for what they are.

At least Atlus hasn't abandoned me yet.

Edit: I'm not necessarily saying the game will be bad, I am saying it's really not what I want from the FF series or JRPGs and that you shouldn't trust IGN.

Dspdspes2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

@Kurisu
Four friends......

With a combat system alla kingdom hearts...

Yes, totally opposite IMO.

And I already preordered 😄

DarXyde2744d ago

Atlus has always been king of JRPGs in my eyes. I agree that those games are fantastic the way they are. Square may have changed, but I think Atlus holds themselves to a higher standard than quite a few developers when it comes to their big projects. I think they realize there's a market in both the east and west for their brand of titles.

I wouldn't worry about it much. Persona takes a different route where the story, I feel, is far more engaging than Final Fantasy and they focus new features around the social elements, which I'm not at all against.

Elda2744d ago

Imo 13 was fine the 2 sequels were a boring mess.

gangsta_red2743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

I actually thought 13-2 was good, (with some criticisms) but FF-13 was okay and FF-13-3 was absolutely trash.

It was definitely a mediocre series.

Viryu2744d ago

I'm one of the few people that actually loved XIII I guess. I absolutely adored the narrative and story, and even the characters. The "sequels" can get burned in an incinerator for all I care though.

-Gespenst-2743d ago

I thought the XIII games were good in all aspects except story and to a certain extent characters. Most of the characters felt too anime-ish, and the story was just kind of meh. XIII had the best story of the three, but with each game the story got worse. Also, the games suffered from a lack of world-building. Audiovisually though, they were fantastic - incredible music, art direction and visuals - and the battle systems in all three were pretty fun. I think LR had the best battle system.

kevnb2744d ago

I pre ordered this and expect to enjoy it, that said previews for big games are almost always glowing.

sdcard4gb2744d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

Pre-ordering anything is never a good idea. Ever. Especially considering that you are continuing to fuel the degenerative pre-order culture we already happen to live in. Good job.

Notellin2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Can't wait to hear the two presidential candidates debate the degenerative pre-order culture tonight.

@Kurisu Yeah I don't get it at all. If it's your money do what you want with money you've earned.

Kurisu2744d ago

I don't get why some people are so against pre-ordering. If you want something day one, pre-order. If you don't, well, don't.

Princess_Pilfer2744d ago

Limited supply is *literally* not a factor, so if you want it you can *always* get it on day 1 without pre-ordering

kevnb2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

it was for 49.99 cad instead of the normal 79.99, e3 special

Red_Renegade2744d ago

that's silly. preorder if you want to.

ps360s2744d ago

I have pre order most thing I never regret (naming this gen only)

PSVR (plus some games)
PS4
Gears 4
GTA4
The Order (truly enjoyed it)
The last of Us (not sure if this one counts)
Might be putting an pre-order on the Pro, just making up my mind

Got my pre-order for FF15 and waiting patiently

okay I lied...only one and that is Destiny lol I just can't get into it :(

PSN_ZeroOnyx2744d ago

Actually, I get 20% off all pre-orders through Amazon Prime which is a good incentive when I already plan to buy a game.

ginsunuva2744d ago

@ Notellin

It's his money but it's all of our gaming industry.

Clown_Syndr0me2743d ago

I used to preorder yearssgo as games went out of stock and were hard to get. I cant remember the last game i couldnt walk 2 mins to Tesco for on the morning of release..

sdcard4gb2744d ago

Yup, that's exactly how they trick you into giving them money before the game is even out. 49.99 instead of the proper price for the game which is out and can be judged by general public.

Kurisu2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

I've NEVER pre-paid for a pre-order as the money gets taken from my account when the game ships.

Eiyuuou2744d ago

Welcome to Europe, we don't pay for preorders. Git gud.

PSN_ZeroOnyx2744d ago

Through Amazon Prime I can pre-order a $60 game, pay only about 43 for it and they don't even get my money until it ships. I happened to pre-order this (collectors edition) and getting my 20% discount since I'm a Prime member.

Kurisu2744d ago

It's going to be a surreal moment when FFXV pops through my letterbox.

I think I'll cradle and caress it before I open it xD

FunAndGun2744d ago (Edited 2744d ago )

Don't forget to take a deep whiff of that crisp, new game freshness upon opening!

Kurisu2744d ago

Oh I won't forget! xD

UltraNova2744d ago

Imagine what he'll do to tLG delivery package then...😅😅

sdcard4gb2744d ago

...I guess reinventing the wheel is trendy these days...

Also, this is IGN.
I really doubt I have to say anything else.

Princess_Pilfer2744d ago

I will, just to be sure everyone gets it. They gave FF13 an 8.9, deeming it "great."

sdcard4gb2744d ago

Ex-actly.
While giving God Hand a 3 out of 10.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI2744d ago

I mean its fine to have that opinion of ign (I share it) however. Literally everyone who has touched it has liked it a lot. From YouTubers to mainstream media. Is it so hard to believe it's actually just s good game? Maybe if you don't like it...its just not for you?

Princess_Pilfer2744d ago

I didn't say anything about not liking it, I said you shouldn't trust IGN because they give almost everything a 7-10, with only truly dire games getting lower than 6.

Pennywise1382744d ago

They also gave metal gear 5 a perfect 10 while spending what seemed like half the review talking about where the game is dissapointing. On the other end gamespot poo poos on a lot of popular and great games in what seems like just a reason to be different and all hipsterish.

Chexs19902743d ago (Edited 2743d ago )

To be fair though, I personally gave XIII a 9. The sequels were meh, but I really think that XIII was great. I could have gone without the overly linear structure, but it worked when they made X and i think it worked just as well with XIII.
The "1-character" thing wasn't optimal, but didn't really ruin anything for me.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled8d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog140d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake140d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic138d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan139d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman140d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator140d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno139d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior140d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake140d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
