Wow! I mean 8 isn't a bad score. What game or games have gotten a 10 from edge?

No way the Edge magazine will give god of war a 10 or even 9. They give high scores only for innovative games and Nintendo games.
And you will see. They will give Nintendo labo a perfect score.

Tbh I expected edge to score less after the I want to drop metacritic score comment so I’m happy we still don’t have any mixed or negative score. From what I heard the problem with the game is pacing? Eh I’m usually not bothered by pacing issues. Now the question is will the metascore drop to 94 now

I loved Edge once upon a time but they seem to like being harsh.
I haven't got to play God of War yet, have to wait until tonight so I can't say they're wrong with their score but they certainly are going against the grain there. There just doesn't seem to be consistency.

You can't give GoW an 8 and in the same breath give Sea of Thieves a 7. I've played Sea of thieves. I've even had a bit of fun with it but it is incredibly shallow and the charm wears off quickly. I think they'll build upon and it could turn out to be a good game but 7 is too high a score especially if your going to consider your critique to be tough but well earned.

"Calm down, 8 is a great score" goes right out the window when it comes to the games people saying that are actually playing.

I tend to agree with Edge scores more than I ever thought I would. Over the years I have come to appreciate their written reviews. Read the review, not just the score.

Giving a 8 to gow isnt the problem, but giving a 7 to a game that got the problems of this gen over hype, pretty and empty... Stop with the comparison to nintendo, because its another world.

This is the one review I was waiting for as they are always fashionably late for blockbuster PS games and always come in low.

The meta bombers are non existent on Metacritic lol. Can't bring themselves to give GoW a 0 this time... another compliment to this amazing game I say

Yeah for past week I have been getting looped into the review scores and am proud Cory Barlog was surprised and embraced the scores on Metacritic. But coming and being surprised with the God of War PS4 Pro Limited Edition Bundle and not just the game, and actually playing it is just so much more satisfying. I was up until 1 last night and had to have some sort of discipline to go to bed.

God of War – 8
Sea of Thieves – 6

People here are going crazy.

1) 8 is in no way a negative score.

2) In what way is God of War similar to Sea of Thieves OR Arms? If it isn't similar then why are you comparing the scores?

People really want GOW to get that 96 on metacritic. Edge gave it a 8, doesn't drop the rating and the fact that it really shows the game lived up to the hype around it, not one troll review and the lowest score was a 8. There's not many games that can claim that.

God of War is IMHO the game of the generation thus far. Originally I would have told you the Witcher was generation defining but God Of War is just on a level I didn't think possible this generation. Seriously who needs native 4k when the output native 4k achieves doesn't touch this.

Why is everyone bringing up nintendo bias when Detective Pikachu is on that list with a 6?...

I tought that the egde would give it a 7 cous they realy dont like God of War games.
All the GoW games got a 8 and GoW2 got a 7 so an 8 is oke but a 7 for Sea of Thiefs is wrong, that gamesscore schould be a 5.5, 6.0.

At least they seem to base their on what they actually like and think rather than, hey a polished game with great graphics 8/10+ EVERYTIME

As I play through this game all I think about is tomb raider, uncharted, and the last of us. This isn't the God of War we all know

For one, the middle drags a bit. There is no innovation at all. It is a bit on the short side. Sometimes the cut scenes interrupt the boss fights and interrupts the flow of combat. The combat is shallow and requires no skill and some moments in the story, the characters behave out of character. Buuuuut, I have not gotten to the end yet, so I may raise my score if it brings home a thundering final. But it is an excellent game. An 8 is a good score. Horizon is still my favorite PS4 game.

Here is the secret.... God of war is a masterpiece in 3d. Shhhhhh x

English magazine giving a positive review of an outright empty game, astonishing! English developer... I get it now.

God of War (8) - 30+ hour game.
Sea of Thieves (7) - Game with 3 quest types.
Far Cry 5 (6) - 30+ hour game.
A Way Out (6) - Innovative co-op game.

Baffling how both Far Cry and A Way Out score worse...

Sorry I'm playing GOW game is on another level playing on my pro & 4K looks amazing the combat is on another level feel so good love how the Axe comes back at will like a True God like Thor...you want no what I mean another level until you play

I stopped buying edge mag years ago, I rest my case 8/10 really. This is a master piece it deserves ten for its impeccable design and narrative that's before we even get to gameplay and visual quality. Edge magazine should have died years ago now.

I view Edge as harsh critics but they are always the first reviews I’ll look for.
Average games get average scores (5-6)
An Edge 8 held more weight for me than a Eurogamer/Gamesmaster (and the console exclusive mags) 9 & 10’s for me (back when they used numerical scoring)
For me I will look into the Edge 8’s (and wouldn’t be put off by a 7) and any game that is a 9 is a must if I don’t despise the genre.
