They should just redesign the case and make it smaller now that it doesn't need the space.

So basically recycle the current XB1s motherboard add a recycled 1s shell with no disc drive slot yup seems we have a winner. The only people who might be interested in this console is collectors to be honest this thing is useless. Save the cash and buy one with a disc drive at least you get the best of both world digital games and if you happen to find a cheap Xbox 360 backwards compatible game disc or find a copy of a cheap you can still play it.

Another LAZY attempt by ms to increase revenue with the least amount of effort. Remember how RICH this company is, why they still get so much fevered support is mind boggling.

I mean they should have done a all digital console years ago as a option to a disc based one. It's what I want to see with the next generation console a option for the consumer. A digital console at a cheaper price (about £100 cheaper).

But releasing one at the end of the generation is silly.

If they want me to support all digital gaming then they have to lower prices of games. I don't own a single copy of a single game I "own" digitally. So asking me for 60 dollars plus more for DLC and other add ons is really pushing their luck. I know smart phones work like this but look at the prices of games on those things. Very very few are over 20 bux. IF xbox wants people to completely all digital invest then we need to rethink digital property ownership as a whole.

I get the whole ranting about this. I really couldn't care any less about this console. But I think people are jumping the gun a bit. Let's try looking at it objectively. They already said it'll always be $50 cheaper. The reason it's not now is that there's a $50 promo on all Xbox bundles and the SAD edition is not available yet. So yes, if you preorder one TODAY over the normal SKU, you're a fool. But when this thing hits $199 or even $149 during big promos, that's when it may be worth the entry point to some people. Regardless though, I don't see this thing flying off shelves and I think it would have been a stroke of genius to bundle this console with GamePass to make it enticing. That's my biggest "WTF?" over this whole deal. It was so bloody obviously made for this type of console. Why that never came across somebody's desk there at Microsoft is beyond my comprehension. Especially when GamePass has been a big hit with gamers and potential consumers. They've been practically giving the subs away with the constant $1 deals. They're running a ridiculous deal as we speak. The games that come with it (besides Forza Horizon 3, *rolls eyes*) are on GamePass, not to mention FH4 is as well. You know, the NEWEST Forza Horizon (???). The marketing team at Xbox has been atrocious this generation and it baffles me how badly they missed this one.

The disc based systems will still give you better deals especially when you acknowledge there is an used market.

MS must of taken a leaf out of Apple's book. They are flooding the market with multiple versions of the same device with ever so slight differences like iPhones. XB1, XB1s, XB1x and now XB1SAD

Yes, it's overpriced right now. Come the holidays, they can sell it for $170 or below. Thats the strategy. They don't actually want to kill the "disked" one, hence the close price. It's basically an experiment to see how it works (ahead of the next gen).

As a die hard Xbox fan, I have to say that this is by far the worst priced console ever. I never expected this thing to be priced more than the Xbox One S with 4k Bluray. There's simply no way to justify the decision to set its price point. Microsoft, listen to me -- if you want to introduce the all digital idea to your audience, you have to give them a reason to jump in. This thing should have been $189. People would be preordering this thing impulsively. Scratching my head....

How sad is it when everyone misses the concept of a disc less Xbox one. It’s meant for those who prefer digital content, none of this is even new and has been announced months ago. People just now whining about it? Grow up, if you don’t like a digital content only Xbox one S than don’t buy it. Theirs still disc models for those who would like to play disc movies and games.

This was a prefect opportunity to make a cheap sleek discless model. Doesnt make sense why its still the same size even without the disc drive. I understand the motherboard is the same and takes up that room to a point. If Microsoft wants to push us into a digital only future they will need to do alot more. If anything, this shows the world why the market isnt ready for digital only.

It sounds like they just repurposed old xb1 internals that they have stock of still. Either way need to get the price down if they want to succeed with it.

With out the 4k blu ray player this is a waste of a console no need to buy this model. Xbox has not enough going for it to make all digital look appealing. The only reason to have xbox imo is just for the the 4k blu ray. So dont waste your time get a ps4 or wait for the next xbox or playstation if you havent jumped on board yet.

they shoulda got rid of the disk drive port and got the biggest cheapest hard drive and pack it in that space, 3.5 inch hard drives 10 terabyte at least

Why would anyone buy an xbox?

They should've dropped the games and reduce the price to $200. Or added a 2tb drive. At $250 the console seem pointless honestly.

Lets just call this what it is. Microsoft has a lot of back stock of One S. They are basically re purposing it in a different package and trying to move it before the new generations launch. The S will be phased out when the new systems launch, leaving to new mid and high end systems and this one for the bottom end. That's all it is.

It's not such a huge deal if the connection for the drive is still on the board, though it wouldn't take any effort at all to remove that from the schematics prior to producing the boards for the console. The eject button, though? That was likely an oversight.

It’s so funny and you can get an idea of how much they’re sucking up to Microsoft when they say on the first paragraph that the Xbox One SAD “it’s the lowest priced Xbox One to date” when Amazon has an Xbox One S with its 4K Blu-ray for $225.
