The Beautiful Game

Hey there! I'm new to this website as you can see but I've been lurking on here for a while now and I thought Id get involved with this contest thing you guys are holding, sounds fun! It took me a while to find out how to post this but I hope I'm doing this right, so here goes nothing!

My love for Football or the beautiful Game like so many people around the world like to call it started all the way back in 1994 with the World cup that was held in Los Angeles. There was something majestic about that World Cup which to this date is the best world cup, In my honest Opinion. I don't know if it was the way it was filmed or the amount of top class players that were on display, but I know for sure it was special unlike any other World Cup.

Like all of us people that don't have their country representing them in the World cup we tend to pick a team to support. Different factors come into play when people choose a team to support, I mean I've heard of people that support teams because they like their jersey! Not for me though, it was a lot more than that. It was because of a certain player... Romario!

As you have probably guessed I was supporting Brazil. I was just glued to the TV when Brazil were on, staying up all night to watch these games due to the time difference are great memories I will never forget. Romario IMO is one of the most under-rated players in the history of the game. He was short and at first glance people would not think he was a Fooball player, but he made up for it in spades with amazing ball control and fierce determination.

If there's one World Cup final that is unforgettable then it would surely be the Italy VS. Brazil Final. Watching the penalty shoot-out gives me goosebumps every time. Roberto Baggio was an amazing player, the last one you would expect to miss a penalty but alas he did. He didn't just miss it, his penalty miss was reminiscent to Sergio Ramoses infamous penalty against Bayern Munich. It was like something out of a movie a perfect ending to an amazing World Cup.

Some of my greatest memories as a kid was when I watched football. Memories like the 1998 World Cup Argentina VS. England game, one of the best games I have ever watched. Or the 1999 Euro Final between France and Portugal that was ended by a merciless golden goal by David Trezeguet. All these are unforgettable.

In the end all I can say is that I love football. We all love football for different reasons. Football has the power to give people hope. How many times have we seen a countries spirits being lifted because of Football? Especially countries in turmoil. Football has that effect on people It truly is the beautiful game like no other sport. No one game is like the last, theres always something new going on. We always come back for more. With the new seasons beginning and the World Cup next year, it truly is a great time to be a Football fan!

I hope you enjoyed the blog and I hope I can join more of these in the near future. I have posted the 1994 World Cup penalty shoot-out for nostalgia's sake and your viweing pleasure off course, enjoy! :)
