How I Grew in 2015

For years, my parents had a little door post at the house we used to live in. Every year around my birthday, they would mark just how tall I had grown in the last 12 months. It's been a while since I stopped getting any higher of a mark. But this year, I feel like I've grown a bit taller – even if no one else can see it.

I love video games. I play them, I collect them, I have shelves of them that crowd out the spaces of my apartment. It was 2015 that I finally decided I was going to do more than just beat them all. I was going to write about them. This past year finally saw me break out into the freelancing scene and get published. I met a lot of new people, joined an awesome new site, and even got noticed by a few people in the industry I can say I wholly admire. It was nothing more than a simply thrilling, flattering, terrifying experience to get your work seen – but liberating nonetheless to make something of my favorite hobby.

Writing in general is the word to describe most of my year. This fall also saw the start of my college career and first semester in the journalism program. Seeing my name in print after so many sleepless nights awake battling writer's block, following leads, and staring dead ends in the face all paid off to know that I got to hear some interesting stories from some interesting people. My sister even got published this year with her first book, so it's nice to know that this pretty much runs in the family, after all.

It'll be more than exciting to know what 2016 will bring, but I know I'll probably have something to write about it, good or bad. Now I know I can do that.

The story is too old to be commented.
