It’s that time of the year again when twenty one of the finest footballers in the world bask in the glory of being also-rans for the prestigious FIFA Ballon d’Or. Come judgement day, only the two regular nominees and perennial favourites will hold their breath when the moment of truth arrives and the enveloped is unsealed.

"Messi was awarded the Golden Ball as the best player in the tournament. Despite competition from Neuer and Robben, the Argentine was a worthy recipient given that he created the most chances, made the most successful dribbles and produced the most throughballs at the World Cup." - I'm sure that will irk some people!

I prefer watching Messi but all in all though, it's great to have these two guys in one footballing generation. Doubt we will see too many like them for a long time.

And so it should be. Every player has moments where they peak for a while and people say they are the same level as these two, but nobody has been able to maintain such an impossibly high level of performance every season, I personally hope Ronaldo wins it but if it didn't go to either of them i'd be disgusted. It offends me that anyone else even gets considered.
