The best signing they can make this summer is tying down Alexis Sanchez to a new contract. The 28-year-old has proved difficult to manage at times but in 51 games last season, he was involved in 45 goals. More than the statistics, however, Sanchez is a talismanic figure and his departure would enhance the sense Arsenal are going backwards as they face their first season in the Europa League for two decades.
