Steven Gerrard believes the next three weeks will go a long way to deciding England’s World Cup fate – before they even kick a ball in South Africa.
England fly out tomorrow to begin their pre-tournament training camp in the Austrian Alps and Gerrard says it is a crucial time for Fabio Capello’s squad.
Not only is there massive competition for places with Capello needing to cut his squad from 30 to 23 by June 1, but the camp will be used to work on tactics, formations and team spirit.
“This is an important time,” said Gerrard, who was speaking at an event organised by England team sponsors Nationwide Building Society. “I think we’re in a good situation.
