Italy Players Prefer 4-4-2 Formation

Italy were defeated 2-1 by Mexico in a friendly ahead of the 2010 World Cup on Thursday, and the scoreline was perhaps flattering to the Azzurri, who looked well and truly second best.

It was a lacklustre performance and much of the press have criticised Marcello Lippi's player selection and 4-2-3-1 formation. The former Juventus tactician tried Claudio Marchisio in an advanced central role behind Alberto Gilardino, but the Bianconeri player did not offer the attacking threat the Azzurri fans were hoping for.

The story is too old to be commented.
