Liverpool club secretary Ian Sylvester has indicated that the Reds will sign a defensive midfielder to replace Javier Mascherano, who is set to leave for Barcelona.
Both clubs announced on Friday morning that they agreed a transfer deal and that the Argentina international will undergo a medical this weekend before officially signing the contract.
