Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer believes that Bayern Munich could do with a defender with the qualities of Gerard Pique.
By now, it is no secret that Bayern Munich have had defensive struggles. In recent weeks, with a revolving door of defensive players failing to impress as a unit, the German record champions have been linked to several full-backs and centre-halves. In an interview, Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer weighed in with his thoughts on the solution to Bayern's defensive woes: Barcelona and Spain centre-half Gerard Pique.
"Gerard Pique has an incredible career ahead of him," Beckenbauer told El Mundo Deportivo. "Now he is a champion with Spain, as he was with [Barcelona]. It's been an amazing progression.
"I've told Louis van Gaal that Bayern lack a central defender like him. With Pique, we would do well, although I do not think Barca will let him go."
