Barton faces FA spotlight over Pedersen punch

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton faces possible punishment from the FA after appearing to punch Morten Gamst Pedersen in the chest during Blackburn's 2-1 win at St James Park.

The incident came early in the second half as Newcastle's good run of form came to an end thanks to Jason Roberts' late winner for the visitors.

The jab escaped the attention of referee Mike Jones at the time meaning the FA's disciplinary committee could retrospectively suspend Barton for three matches for violent conduct if they see the incident in that light.
