Bolton chief Gartside calls for salary cap

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has called for limits on Premier League players' wages and admitted the club may be forced to sell Gary Cahill and Johan Elmander to balance the books.

The club's losses have more than doubled to £35.4 million, with their debt rising from £64 million to £93 million, and Gartside said England defender Cahill may be sold in the January transfer window if they receive an offer in excess of £15 million.

And Gartside, also a long-serving FA board member, believes wage restraints are needed.

"Owners should be allowed to invest in equity," Gartside told Bloomberg. "So if you, as an owner, want to buy a striker for £10million that shouldn't be a problem.

yup Liverpool and United have lost huge amounts of money during thew recession next one colud kill such teams.
Pompey are another example

yes and more clubs to come. And it will like in spain. Only Real and Barca who can win anything

There will always be a way around salary caps though unfortunately
