Referee, players appeal UEFA ban

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- UEFA is being challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport by a referee and two players it has suspended in connection with alleged match-fixing.

The court says it set a Dec. 15 date for Ukrainian referee Oleh Orekhov's appeal to overturn a lifetime ban.

UEFA imposed the sanction in March for "breach of the principles of loyalty and integrity," though never specified which matches Orekhov allegedly helped fix.

CAS says goalkeeper Norbert Meszaros and defender Vukasin Poleksic from Hungarian club Debrecen have filed appeals against their bans for failing to report approaches by fixers before a Champions League match last season.

UEFA banned Meszaros for two years and Poleksic for 18 months.

The story is too old to be commented.
