Sunderland 2-2 Everton: Deflected Arteta Strike Earns point

Two goals from loanee Danny Welbeck were not enough to secure the points for Sunderland, as a battling away performace from Everton keeps the honours even.

Much has been written about the reliance of Everton on Tim Cahill, but again the Australian showed his importance to the Toffees as he grabbed the early goal which was the tonic they were after following their defeat to Arsenal last week.

The goal came on six minutes from a neat passage of play on the left flank with full-back Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar linking up for a swift one-two which catapulted Baines along the touchline. His cross was of equal quality as Cahill bisected the Sunderland pair of Michael Turner and Anton Ferdinand to head home from five yards leaving Craig Gordon with little chance of preventing the goal.

The story is too old to be commented.
