A goal from Wayne Rooney on his return to the Manchester United starting line-up was enough to seal a 1-0 over a negative Rangers at Ibrox. The Scottish champions played with five defenders and United looked comfortable for the majority of the game.
Rooney looked lively and the England striker had a number of chances to seal the victory before his 85th minute penalty sent United through to the Champions League knockout stages and left Rangers facing Europa League football.
