PH Five Things We Learned From The Champions League On Tuesday Night

For the second fortnight in a row we need to praise Tottenham Hotspur - as well as FC Twente. Spurs were already through to the group stage and by half-time must have known that, with Inter losing, they were destined for first place; Twente, meanwhile, could have won or lost by 20 goals and not shifted from third place.

But you wouldn't have known that to watch this clash at the Grolsch Veste. Spurs did enough to get theit top spot but it was an extremely close-run thing as both sides exchanged hostilities over the course of 70 thrilling minutes (matters abating slightly towards the end.)

It's true that the match lacked finesse and quality at times, but equally as true is that entertainment was a constant, with Jermain Defoe being well worth his double. Twente, meanwhile, are still a force to be reckoned with.
