Ocean Boys defender Emmanuel Ogoli slumped during a Nigeria Premier League game on Sunday, and died soon after.
Ogoli, a left back who joined the former champions from city rivals Bayelsa United in the close season, lasted for only 39 minutes of Sunday's game, which his teammates went on to win 2-0 against Niger Tornadoes at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
The club have released a statement confirming the incident.
