Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has backed Shola Ameobi to fill Andy Carroll's role in Sunday's clash with rivals Sunderland.
England striker Carroll has been ruled out of the Tyneside derby at the Stadium of Light and Pardew believes Ameobi is the man who could lead the front line.
