Ajax Goalkeeper Stekelenburg Is Manchester United's Prime Candidate To Succeed Van Der Sar

Manchester United’s first-team coach Rene Meulensteen confirmed Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg is the club’s first-choice candidate to replace Edwin van der Sar next season.

Van der Sar has announced he will retire at the end of the season and Sir Alex Ferguson has been actively seeking potential transfers to fill the gap which will be left by the 40-year-old.

The story is too old to be commented.

Yup, but not this window!

Ajax lose a lot of players this year.. Suarez is already out! But, Van der Wiel and Stekelenburg will follow shortly.. Really sad, but we know we cant hold these players!

He will be a good successor of Van der Sar, maybe he will stay their for a long time (10years?)..

Ajax have a good youth academy, so its not like this will kill them or anything.

Yes I know, but youth players needs time to improve their self! Look at Wesley Sneijder, is a Ajax youth-academy product.. But last season he was on his top of his carreer.

But indeed no worries we will get all the successors soon!

And players we already got like: Sulejmani, Eriksen, Siem de Jong, Blind can stand up really soon!

There is only one problem for Ajax. The League they play in. And its not just about the quality of football. It is about the media coverage. EPL is the most watched league in the world. And then its La Liga, so anyone who wants to be famous will want to go there. And then there is the money concerns.

I think Neuer would be a better option

Maybe in the summer but Lindeguaard has been solid so far (United vs Southampton)

Lindeguaard is not good enough. Coming from Norwegian league and has to little experience at this level.

But he is talented, and a man for the future

He's good but inexperienced.

The first thing I thought when I saw this article was "another Ajax player?". First Affelay, then Suarez and not Wan der Wiel and Steklenberg. I feel kind of bad for them! Feels like they're just a feeder club for bigger teams.
