The Israeli international completed a year-long loan to the Gunners on transfer deadline day, but sealed the deal so close to the 11pm cut-off he was unable to undergo the customary examinations.

The story is too old to be commented.

The question arises: why did Wenger decide to do business the last day, and not months before? Was he stubborn to realize that Fabregas and Nasri were destined to leave that summer?

I think it was because both Barca and City did not put serious offers for both players. And without getting that money Arsenal probably still didn't have the budget to buy many replacements. This also lead to to Arsene having to just patch (somewhat) the holes left by Nasri and Cesc in the last day (sort of like a panic buy). Though I actually expect Arsenal to reinforce their squad at the end of the year especially if these replacements don't do a decent job.

they new that both players would be leaving so there was no excuse for not pre emptively spending that money..
