Lampard longs to play

The England international justified Andre Villas-Boas' decision to include him from the start against Valencia on Wednesday as he netted in a 1-1 draw at the Mestalla.

His effort may not have been enough to help the Blues to three more UEFA Champions League points, but he has offered a timely reminder of what he is capable of.

Not that Villas-Boas needs any convincing, with the Portuguese coach having shrugged off any suggestion that the clock is ticking on Lampard's Chelsea career.

The 33-year-old claims he is as determined as ever to remain a first team regular, with his recent spell out of the side giving him even more motivation to succeed.

"I don't want to just pick my money up and sit on my backside on the bench," he said.
