Referee Andre Marriner to take charge of Liverpool-Man United clash

Andre Marriner has been selected to be the referee for this weekend's clash between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield.

Marriner last officiated the fixture in 2009, when goals from Fernando Torres and David N'Gog gave the home side a 2-0 victory.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was incensed by the officials decision-making on the day, with Marriner sending off United defender Nemanja Vidic (he also sent off the then-Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano) and not awarding a late penalty to Michael Owen, and his overall performance drew criticism from Ferguson, who felt the crowd influenced the referee.
