Rio Ferdinand sparks debate over Bale v Giggs

Ferdinand was full of praise for Bale after his goals kept Tottenham on the coattails of Manchester City and United in the title race.

But the England defender bridled at the suggestion that Bale could now be considered in the same class as Old Trafford's Welsh winger.

Trophies don't define a player and Bale does have the potential to be as good as Giggs or even better.

He doesn't half talk some shit.

Holy crap.. couldn't you just post the wikipedia link.. Jesus!

kane_lfc4500d ago (Edited 4500d ago )

I know but if Bale moves to a team like AC Milan where he has a chance of winning stuff he could turn into an amazing player and remember Bales only 22 yrs old and already has over 30 caps for Wales and over 100 for Tottenham.

Shay Given is recognised as one of the best goalkeepers of all time even though he's never won much

zeddy4499d ago

giggs won 5 or 6 tropheys by the time he was the same age as bale. dont think any player will do what giggs has done but bale will still be a great player.

RedDevils4499d ago (Edited 4499d ago )

Giggs was the best left Winger in the league when he was Bale age, beside he don't just use pace to take on a player that is the reason why he still playing at the age of 38. Bale is no doubt a great young player with potential, if he can show consistency over the years then he can be comparable, atm let just leave him as a great young potential player.

OT: I agree with Rio a great player cannot defy by what he has won, but by his ability, Shearer is a great example

ProjectVulcan4498d ago (Edited 4498d ago )

Slow down there....even with Bale's current ability he is not in the same class as Giggs was at his age. Giggs was already turning it on in europe consistantly by his 22nd birthday.

Bale has the POTENTIAL to match Gigg's ability as a winger, but he has not reached it yet.

The fact that Giggs still plays at the very highest level at 38 and in a completely different role to what he was doing at 22 shows how very very VERY special he is. Bale is good but seriously, lets not get out on control here and overhype him!
