Carlos Tevez Is Set for a Monster and Drama Free Year with Man City

Carlos Tevez was signed with Manchester City in July of 2009.  After failing out of favor at Manchester United, despite some very good play, Tevez became the first player to move between the two Manchester Clubs since Terry Cooke in 1999.  

While the rivalry between the two clubs was extremely lopsided at the time, this was a massive move for City, snatching a star from their cross town rivals.  

Tevez exhibited his class very early with his new club, stunning fans with his pace, strength, work ethic and world class finishing.  Tevez finished his first City campaign scoring 19 times in the Premier League and 25 times in all competitions.  

The following August, new Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini, stripped Kolo Toure of the captain's band and presented Tevez as the new Man City skipper.  

Shortly after this, drama began.  

In December of 2010, Tevez submitted a written transfer request.  After some convincing, he withdrew his transfer request before the end of December—a lovely Christmas gift for slightly sour City fans.  Tevez would eventually lead Manchester City to a historic win against Stoke City to capture the FA Cup.  

2011-12 was a year of great tribulations between Tevez, Mancini and the club.  With the addition of Sergio Aguero to compliment an already loaded list of strikers, it was obvious that one of the clubs four world class strikers wouldn't be happy.  

In comes Carlos Tevez.

In a Champions League clash against German side Bayern Munich, Carlos Tevez refused to come on as a substitute, drama ensued.  Tevez fled the club, returning home on a self imposed vacation, while City Boss, Mancini, stated his intentions to never involve Tevez with the club as long as he was manager.  

Rumors surrounded Tevez in the 2012 January transfer window; however, Tevez remained on the team and was even submitted in the 25 man roster.  

With the title race slipping away from Man City late in the season, Roberto Mancini turned back to the disgruntled Argentine to bolster his side for a final push for hardware.  This gamble paid off for all parties—Tevez managed four goals to help propel his side to victory.  

Tevez all but wasted a year at the Eastlands, one in which City captured victory for the first time in 44 years.  While he no longer wears the captain armband, he looks set to stay with City, insisting that he is happy to remain in England with the team. 

Via ESPN: "I finished the season very happy in England. I am feeling good, I have no desire to be thinking that I want to leave, my family are happy."

Tevez has stated the same intentions in the past; however, it is amazing what silverware can do to convince someone.  

Tevez looks very eager to win a place on the squad for this upcoming season.  He has been training hard and looked good in early friendlies.  It appears as though Carlos Tevez is eager to win, and win with City.  While he may not be the easiest person to like, his world class skill and staggering work ethic on the pitch will be vital to success at the Eastlands this year.  

Tevez and his countryman, Sergio Agureo, look very likely to start the season on the pitch together.  Fully expect Tevez to impress this year—form was never an issue during his time with the Blues. He scored 48 times in 79 appearances since he first arrived from rivals Manchester United.  

Tevez will be a key feature in any successful title defense, or success in Europe.
