AC Milan's Kaka Transfer Conundrum

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani is scheduled to meet with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez to discuss the possibility of Kaká returning to the Rossoneri, according to ESPN Soccernet.

Meanwhile, Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he supports the club's attempts to re-sign Kaká (via Goal.com):

Kaká is one of those players who left Milan, despite still having some unfinished business. He is a great player who still has a lot to give. In my opinion it does not seem like he has any physical problems. Kaká is welcome here at Milan. Everyone would like it if he came back.

Let's look at the idea of Kaká leaving Real to go back to AC Milan.

Florentino Pérez is clinging on to the hope that Kaká can still single-handedly win games like he did a few years ago for AC Milan.

While fellow 2009 signing Cristiano Ronaldo elevated himself from being one of the best players in the world to the historic footballer he is today at Madrid, that praise cannot be lavished on Kaká.

The Brazilian hasn't lived up to his €65 million transfer fee.

Kaka has decent numbers, with a total of 24 goals and 31 assists in 92 games, the majority of which were sub affected.

He has shown flashes of brilliance from time to time. A majestic display against Espanyol a season ago, in which  he created two goals and scored another, showed he could still dominate.

The season before last, he memorably scored a brace and provided two assists in an entertaining 6-3 win over Valencia.

Nevertheless, these performances don't seem to convince José Mourinho, who sees Kaká as an invaluable impact sub.

This was on show against a stubborn APOEL side, when Kaká was directly and indirectly involved with two goals in the span of 18 minutes, having come on as a substitute.

Kaká sees AC Milan as an exit route from a frustrating situation at Real Madrid, where he'll always be second to a younger Mesut Özil in the eyes of José Mourinho.

The Special One recently commented on Kaká's options:

In some matches he is a great player, with quality and the ability to help us win. We know him well and have worked together for two years. He contributed well last season and I know what he has in his head. We do not need to send messages. The important thing is that he decides on his future that is ideal for himself.

Does "ideal for himself" mean a move to another club that can guarantee him a starting position week in, week out?

It's not just any club, it's AC Milan, the club that helped transform Kaká from prodigious talent to FIFA World Player of the Year.

Should he leave Real, he'll always wonder how successful he could have been with Los Blancos if he didn't suffer a serious knee injury.

That is, an injury which prompted surgeon Marc Martens to drastically tell Marca (via Sky Sports): "His career has come under serious danger."

Having sold Zlatan Ibrahimović and Thiago Silva, signing Kaká would slightly soften the PR blow for AC Milan.

Having said that, intelligent Milan supporters will note it would be contradictory to sign a fading 30-year-old for €20 million after selling Ibrahimović and Silva citing financial stability.

Right now, Kevin-Prince Boateng is easily a better player than Kaká. Why not just move Boateng into midfield to fit Kaká into the team? Give Boateng more time as a trequartista and he'll become something special.

He's so lethal when he eludes his marker and unleashes the kraken. His passing is immaculate, and people often overlook his 87.7 percent completion rate on long passes.

In addition, Kaká coming to Milan could further stunt Stephan El Shaarawy's development.

If Real Madrid want to get rid of Kaká, they should only sell him for over €20 million. If no club offers that amount, Los Blancos should keep him.

Loaning him out makes no sense, especially when José Mourinho has a fixation on squad depth.

How about the proposed loan of Nuri Şahin to Arsenal? Fistly, Real may sign Luka Modrić. Secondly, Manchester United could hijack Arsenal's loan bid with a permanent transfer bid.
