Arsenal fans salivating at the prospect of Nuri Sahin swelling their side's ranks next season might want to think again.

The Real Madrid midfielder is certainly an exciting talent... but he also has history with another new Gunners recruit, Lukas Podolski .

The 101 Great Goals blog has unearthed this footage from October 2010 in which the pair almost come to blows during a bad-tempered meeting between Cologne and Borussia Dortmund.

The first flashpoint came after Podolski's 82nd minute equaliser for Cologne. A rash challenge on Sahin followed and the two players were both booked for the resulting head-to-head handbags.

The on-loan Sahin then celebrated his late Dortmund winner under Podolski's nose - quite literally.

The Cologne striker retaliated at the final whistle by holding up three fingers - a reference to the score in the international match between Germany and Turkey the duo had played in a week earlier.

Podolski is a Polish-born Germany international and Sahin is a German-born Turkish international.

Let's hope the pair have buried before the hatchet the next time they meet...

Sahin would be an important signing for Arsene Wenger as he tries to convince Robin van Persie that Arsenal have ambitions to match his own.

The current thinking is that Robin van Persie could now actually stay at Arsenal.
