Barcelona is reportedly targeting Chelsea defender David Luiz this summer in an attempt to boost their defensive prowess even more this season, according to The Independent's Sam Wallace via Twitter:

Luiz has played the last two seasons with Chelsea after making a name for himself with Portuguese club Benfica for five seasons. Luiz has made 52 career appearances for the Blues in all competitions since 2010, posting five goals during that time.

The 25-year-old Brazilian will likely cost Barcelona £30 million to add, according to Wallace. Still, that is money well spent considering the type of stability he would bring to Barca's back line. A worthy addition without question.

Luiz is a clean defender and rarely commits poor fouls, especially egregious ones that put his team in jeopardy. The Brazilian would also be an ideal fit for Barca based on their defensive-minded style of play.

No team allowed fewer goals in the Spanish La Liga last season than Barca, who gave up just 29 in 38 matches. Luiz would make the Spanish powerhouse even more formidable at the back.

His smooth and crisp passes would fit right into Barca's offense and make them a more lethal counter-attacking unit.

Of course, there's no guarantee that Chelsea will part ways with Luiz based on how important he is to the club heading into a new English Premier League season and looking to defend its European Championship.

The cost for Luiz's services could also go up based on whether Chelsea think Barcelona will be willing to pay up for the experienced star.

Overall though, it's hard to see any cons in a scenario where David Luiz comes to Camp Nou. He is an incredible defensive talent and the ideal back-line player for Barca as they look to become the best club in Europe this season.
