Chelsea Transfer Rumors: 5 Reasons Falcao and Torres Would Be Unstoppable

0 of 5

With the January transfer window quickly approaching, there is plenty of speculation surrounding the most sought after transfer target, Falcao.

It is common knowledge by now that the world's biggest clubs, including Chelsea, are after the Atletico Madrid striker.

The Blues already employ one former Atletico Madrid striker on their roster in Fernando Torres, who came over from Liverpool in January of 2011.

With the potential of having both Falcao and Torres in the strike force at Stamford Bridge, here are five reasons why the combination of the two star forwards would be unstoppable.

All Falcao Does Is Score

Everywhere Falcao has played, he has been able to score goals at the highest level.

The Colombian started with River Plate in Argentina, then moved to Portugal to join Porto before his move to La Liga last season to join Atletico Madrid.

In his three seasons in Europe, the striker has scored over 30 goals in each season.

He is also no stranger to scoring in European play, as he scored 17 goals with Porto on their way to winning the 2010-11 Europa League title.

Falcao also scored 12 goals in Atletico's Europa League title run last season, and he netted a hat trick against Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

The Pressure Will Finally Be off of Fernando Torres

Ever since his move to Stamford Bridge, Fernando Torres has been under high levels of criticism from everyone around him, whether it be at the club or in the media.

Torres has been the main striker at Chelsea, even when Didier Drogba was still at the club, because of the amount of playing time he received.

With the amount of options in attack that manager Roberto di Matteo possesses after his summer spending spree, the attention has shifted from Torres to newer players like Oscar and Eden Hazard.

However, Torres does still get plenty of attention by being the main striker.

If Falcao were to move to Stamford Bridge, the focus would be shifted from Torres to Falcao.

With a higher profile striker at the club, the attention will be off Torres, and he may get a chance to settle in and score goals finally.

Falcao Will Make Chelsea's Midfield Players Even Better

Chelsea's midfield talent is already at a world-class level, but it could become even better with a target up front like Falcao.

With players like Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar providing crosses into the box for Falcao, it will definitely make their assists totals go up.

Other than the statistical gain that the midfield will have with the addition of the Colombian striker, Falcao's style of play will also help the young midfield gain more confidence by playing with a world-class striker who can score goals at will.

Torres Will Have More Freedom on Pitch

If and when the two strikers are paired together in the starting lineup for Chelsea, Falcao will surely be the main target up front.

With Torres also on the pitch, it could give the Spaniard a chance to roam the pitch in search of the ball.

Torres could play just behind Falcao in the Chelsea lineup and could drop deep into the midfield to help get the ball to the Colombian star up front.

A versatile Torres will not only help Falcao when both strikers are in the lineup, but it will also help Torres keep a spot in the starting 11 if he succeeds in that role.

Both Forwards Will Not Be Overworked

Being fit for every match is something that Falcao and Torres will want to achieve on a regular basis.

With the addition of Falcao and Roberto di Matteo's tendency to play with one striker in the starting 11, it will give both players a chance to rest and avoid match fatigue.

Beginning in January, not only will Chelsea have the title race in the EPL to focus on, but they will also have to deal with the knockout phases of the Champions League and the start of the FA Cup.

The crowded fixture list that awaits the Blues at the start of the new year will require a squad that has plenty of depth.

By signing Falcao, that will give Di Matteo two world-class forwards to choose from as well as the potential of Victor Moses playing up front, while Daniel Sturridge will most likely be sold to help fund the move for Falcao.
