Arsenal Transfer News: Tracking Latest Rumours, Updates and Signings

0 of 17

Arsenal have been linked with a number of new players ahead of the transfer window opening.

The Gunners have endured an inconsistent first half to the season but have recovered in recent weeks with a run of four successive Premier League wins.

Manager Arsene Wenger also has one eye on the Champions League last-16 tie with Bayern Munich as he monitors the transfer market.

Here we will record and track Arsenal's links with players across the globe throughout the January transfer window.

David Beckham, No Club Affiliation

1 of 17

Now this would be an interesting move for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.

David Beckham is training with the Gunners after leaving LA Galaxy last month. Wenger insisted in a report in The Independent that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder is not a signing target.

The signing of Beckham is merely conjecture based on his choice of training facilities, but the 37-year-old would create a tremendous buzz within the Premier League if he did sign for Arsenal, even purely as a squad addition.

Arsenal have a policy in place for finances and Wenger must be taken at his word, but who is to say Beckham won't impress in training enough to earn a short-term deal?

Florian Thauvin, Bastia

2 of 17

Bastia attacking midfielder Florian Thauvin has emerged as a potential target for both Arsenal and Newcastle.

The 20-year-old is rated highly by the Ligue 2 club, who have told both clubs that Thauvin is worth £6 million, according to a report in The Metro.

Arsene Wenger knows the French market very well and will be aware of Thauvin's progress.

Thauvin is a France youth international who previously played for Grenoble before joining Bastia in 2011. He has scored twice in 20 matches for the French club.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Montpellier

3 of 17

Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa had looked set for a move to Newcastle before Arsenal made a late move for the player, reported the Mirror.

The 23-year-old has even been told by Montpellier president Louis Nicollin that he should not go to Newcastle in an interview with L'Equipe (via the Daily Mail).

The France international also has versatility, being able to play in central defense, right-back and as a holding midfielder.

However, Newcastle completed the signing of Yanga-Mbiwa on Jan. 22 as the club confirmed on their official website nufc.co.uk.

Yoann Gourcuff, Lyon

4 of 17

Arsenal have been offered Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff on loan, reports the Daily Star.

The France international's progress at the Stade de Gerland has been hampered by injuries this season and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has voiced his desire to lessen the wage bill at the French club (via Sky Sports).

Gourcuff is still only 26 and would provide creative flair in the Gunners' midfield, which has lost Mikel Arteta to a calf injury recently.

Aulas has played down Gourcuff's link with Arsenal this month, reports ESPN, but the Lyon president did not rule out a move in the summer for the player.

Victor Wanyama, Celtic

5 of 17

Arsene Wenger is considering a move for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to a report in The Independent.

The Kenya international has been at Parkhead since joining the Scottish Premier League club from AC Beerschot in Belgium in July 2011.

The 21-year-old has been a key component in Neil Lennon's side this season, helping the team to defeat Barcelona with a goal in the 2-1 win which saw Celtic reach the last 16 of the tournament and aiding their defense of the SPL title.

Wanyama can also play as a central defender and would offer a more physical presence in the Arsenal midfield as Wenger attempts to claim a Champions League spot this season.

Adrian Lopez, Atletico Madrid

6 of 17

Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez is the target of an official offer from Arsenal, according to a report by goal.com

The 24-year-old Spain international has made just six La Liga starts for Atletico this season, scoring twice.

But Adrian does possess experience of scoring at all age-group levels with both club and country.

Adrian's versatility would also prove to be an asset for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with the forward able to play across the front line.

Edinson Cavani, Napoli

7 of 17

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has voiced his interest in Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, according to a report in The Mirror.

The Uruguay international, 25, has scored 16 times in as many Serie A matches for the Italian side this season and has already been the subject of an offer from Manchester City, according to a report on Sky Sports this month.

Since joining Napoli from Palermo in the summer of 2010, Cavani has scored 65 times in 86 appearances for the club.

Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace

8 of 17

Wilfried Zaha has done his career prospects no harm this season after helping Crystal Palace in the Championship promotion race.

The 20-year-old winger has scored five times in 24 league appearances for the Eagles and has created many more with his direct running and turn of pace.

Zaha received his first senior England call-up in November and came on as a substitute in the friendly defeat in Sweden.

But his form is attracting interest from other high-profile Premier League clubs, according to The Independent.

Zaha agreed to join Manchester United last week and will be loaned back to Palace for the remainder of the current season, as The Guardian reported.

Nani, Manchester United

9 of 17

Manchester United midfielder Nani has attracted the attention of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, claims the Daily Telegraph.

The Portugal winger has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and has not made a Premier League start since September.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has since quashed any thought of the 26-year-old, whose contract expires in 2014, leaving the club.

Luke Shaw, Southampton

10 of 17

Southampton starlet Luke Shaw is being strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this month, says the Daily Mirror.

The 17-year-old has emerged from the Southampton youth academy, which has also produced Gunners stars Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Gareth Bale also came through the same ranks.

Unsurprisingly, Southampton manager Nigel Adkins is in no mood to let the teenager leave with his facing a relegation battle this season.

And Shaw signed a new five-year deal this month, as the Daily Mail reported, to put an end to speculation over his future.

Yohan Cabaye, Newcastle United

11 of 17

Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has caught the eye of Arsene Wenger, according to a report in the Daily Star.

The France international, 26, has been a success with the Magpies since moving to Tyneside in 2011 for an undisclosed fee from Lille.

Cabaye possesses a tremendous engine that enables him to cover so much ground on the field, and his vision, ball control and passing are all facets of his game.

David Villa, Barcelona

12 of 17

Arsenal's hopes of landing midfielder David Villa from Barcelona on loan may be scuppered by Atletico Madrid, warns the Daily Express.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger was keen to land the 31-year-old, who has struggled to find his way back in the first team at the Nou Camp after eight months out with a broken tibia, and made a personal call to Villa, reported the Sunday People at the weekend.

But Atletico have made their move for Villa, who has scored 53 goals in 85 games for Spain, as they look to prepare for the exit of striker Radamel Falcao in the near future.

Wenger ruled out a move for Villa on Jan. 29 when he told reporters that Barcelona did not want to sell the forward.

Lucas Biglia, Anderlecht

13 of 17

Arsenal have been linked with Lucas Biglia after the Anderlecht midfielder revealed his desire to leave the club, reports the Mirror.

The Argentina international, 26, is keen to cement his place in the national side for the 2014 World Cup and views a move to a bigger European league as an opportunity to enhance his career according to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

The defensive midfielder would be available for around £8 million and has also been linked with a move to Liverpool this month.

James McCarthy, Wigan Athletic

14 of 17

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy is a potential target for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, reports the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who is also being considered by Everton and Liverpool, joined the Latics from Hamilton Academical in June 2009 for an initial £1.2 million.

McCarthy has since gone on to become a mainstay in Roberto Martinez's side, scoring twice in 19 Premier League games so far this season.

Diego Milito, Inter Milan

15 of 17

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a move for veteran Inter Milan striker Diego Milito, according to a report in the Daily Express.

The 33-year-old Argentina international has been a regular for the Serie A side this season, but the club may be willing to do business to ease financial concerns at Inter.

Milito has scored eight times in 18 appearances this season and could be the goal threat Arsenal are looking for to cement their top-four position this season.

Mohamed Diame, West Ham United

16 of 17

Arsenal are weighing up a bid for West Ham United midfielder Mohamed Diame, according to a report in The Sun.

The Senegal international, 25, only joined the Upton Park club last summer after being released by Wigan Athletic, but is on the Gunners' radar after Mikel Arteta was ruled out for three weeks with a calf injury.

However, West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has cooled talk of a possible move for Diame to the Emirates Stadium in a report on Sky Sports.

Etienne Capoue, Toulouse

17 of 17

Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue has also been lined up for a move to Arsenal, according to the Daily Star, who also report that the Gunners are interested in AC Milan utility man Urby Emanuelson.

France international Capoue, 24, would bring more steel to the Gunners' in his role as a defensive midfielder after impressing with the Ligue 1 side.

Capoue has won four caps for France since making his debut in a friendly against Uruguay in August 2012.
