Sir Alex Ferguson was at Celtic last night to check on Manchester United target Victor Wanyama - as first revealed by Mirror Sport.

While his United squad prepared for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Fulham in the heat of Qatar, Ferguson was back in the freezing cold of his native Glasgow to check on Kenya midfielder Wanyama.

Mirror Sport revealed Ferguson's interest in Wanyama back in October, with the United manager's brother Martin having watched the 21-year-old in action several times already this season.

Ferguson himself was at Celtic Park last night to watch the 4-0 win over Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League, with midfield enforcer Wanyama excelling in front of the Old Trafford boss.

Celtic are desperate to keep hold of Wanyama, who cost just £900,000 from Belgian side Beerschot in July 2011 but whose worth has risen to at least £10million following his impressive displays.

Wanyama played a key role in Celtic's progression to the Champions League last 16 this season, in particular his starring role in their historic 2-1 win over Barcelona in the group stage.

Ferguson will today attend the funeral of Celtic legend Sean Fallon, a former player who was also assistant to manager Jock Stein when the club won the European Cup in 1967.
