Most Likely Summer Transfer Destinations for Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez

Bayern Munich won a magnificent treble last season after clinching the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League titles, but a new manager in Pep Guardiola is in town and that inevitably means there will be changes afoot.

One of the players who looks likely to exit this summer is German striker Mario Gomez, who scored 41 goals for Bayern two seasons ago but was out of favour last term after being sidelined by injury and then being unable to displace Mario Mandzukic.

Gomez still scored 11 goals in nine starts and 12 sub appearances in the league last term, so he will have no shortage of admirers in the transfer market this summer.

Here, in no particular order, are the four most likely destinations for Gomez.

Despite recent reports—via Sky Sports—that Gomez has not definitively agreed a transfer to Italian Serie A side Fiorentina, the move does seem a possibility.

Fiorentina could have money to spend and an attacking position to fill this summer if Stevan Jovetic moves on, as has been rumoured to be the case, again via Sky Sports, and a pairing of Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi for the new campaign is a mouthwatering proposition.

Much might depend on the formations Fiorentina opt to play, with Adem Ljajic proving more effective from a wide-left attacking role over the second half of the season. That would mean only one central striker starts with regularity for the Viola; would they then require Gomez at all?

One club who definitely need to find a top striker this summer is English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

Had they had one at their disposal last season, instead of relying on the inconsistent Jermaine Defoe and the maddeningly poor Emmanuel Adebayor, Spurs could well have pipped their rivals Arsenal to fourth place.

There have been plenty of strikers linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer, and Gomez is one of the names on their list according to Jamie Sanderson of Metro. The £7 million rumoured fee would represent something of a steal if the hit-man could replicate his goalscoring form of two seasons ago.

Charles Perrin of the Express claims that another English club, Manchester City, are also following Gomez's availability.

City have recently sold Carlos Tevez to Juventus and also let Mario Balotelli go in the January transfer window, while Edin Dzeko is also widely expected to leave this summer. That would most certainly mean there is room for at least one new striker to be signed, if not more, and the report indicates City, Atletico Madrid and the aforementioned Fiorentina are all after Gomez.

The fees being talked about in associated with a move to Manchester City are far higher; £17 million is the quoted price for this move and though City would easily fund it, it seems a high price to pay for someone who was an onlooker for most of last season.

Finally, one club who are definitely looking for a replacement striker, and have money to spend, are Atletico Madrid.

Atleti finished third in La Liga and won the Copa del Rey last season and are very much a club on the up, but they must appropriately replace the goals and ability of Radamel Falcao, who left for Monaco this summer.

Signing Mario Gomez would be a statement of Atleti's continued ability to compete at the top, and they will need to sign at least one top-class player if they are to push on beyond the "glass ceiling" of third place in Spain's top flight.

They have been linked with a move for Gomez, according to Marca, though again the quoted fee of €35 million (£31 million) seems extraordinarily high.

If there is a chance to sign him for around a third of that price, it is likely that Atleti will look to be among the front-runners for his signature.
