Barcelona have reportedly agree personal terms with Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva according to Eurosport.

Nou Camp boss Tito Vilanova has been linked with interest in a myriad of potential defensive reinforcements as he sets about adding more strength to a weak area of his Barcelona squad and appears to be closing in on a move to sign the highly rated PSG defender.

The 28 year old had an excellent first season at the Parc des Princes, during which he helped his side to their first Ligue 1 title in almost 20 years as well as a strong run to the Champions League quarter-finals but now it seems that the former AC Milan is pushing to secure a move to the Catalan giants.

Having seen Carlo Ancelotti leave PSG for Real Madrid the strong intelligent battler may have felt the time is right to seek a new challenge and it can indeed be hard to turn down an advance from a side like Barcelona.

For a team jam packed with midfield and attacking talent Barcelona have very few out and out central defensive options, indeed in terms of senior experienced options Vilanova can only call upon veteran Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, whilst frequently using Javier Mascherano in a makeshift role as and when needed.

Therefore there is a very real need to bring in strong options that can resolve this problem area and Thiago Silva would in many ways be an ideal man for the job.

This source claims the player has agreed a five year deal with Barcelona though PSG haven’t agreed a fee for his services and if they did elect to allow Silva to leave they would demand a hefty price for a player they purchased for £36m barely a year ago.
