Jupp Heynckes speaks sarcastically about his successor
Jupp Heyckes, one day after the defeat of Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, talked about his successor in the manager's seat at Bayern, Pep Guardiola, on the German television station ZDF, where he also stated his intention not to manage a club any more.
Speaking somewhat ironically of Pep, Heynckes said that he was "a nice, attractive man; he dresses incredibly well; he has had great success with Barcelona, so who could be better to manage Bayern?" This was greeted with laughter.
Nonetheless, Heynckes said that he still has to talk with Guardiola. "Rummenigge said he wanted to get in touch with me, but we haven't met as yet".
About the defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Heynckes said that it was not yet possible to get the most out of Bayern. As to his own future, he insisted that he has now retired. "I shan't manage another club. I want to enjoy time with my family and live a quiet life".
Heynckes has won, and by a comfortable margin, the annual poll for best German manager held by the magazine 'Kicker'. He got 383 votes, after winning the triple last season. A long way behind Henyckes came Christian Streich, of Friburg, who pushed the Borussia manager, Jurgen Klopp, into third place after winning this vote for the last two seasons.
The same vote, but for the footballer of the year, was won by Bastian Schweinsteiger, also of Bayern, which reflects the predominance of Bayern in German football, and European football for that matter, in the past season.
