Nicolas Anelka has once again pleaded his innocence over his ‘quenelle’ goal celebration – and insisted the controversy won’t drive him away from West Brom during the January transfer window.

The French striker is up on an FA charge for an alleged anti-Semitic gesture after scoring in the 3-3 draw at West Ham on December 28 and faces a minimum five-match ban if he is found guilty.

Zoopla has announced its sponsorship of the Baggies will come to an end at the end of the season but – despite interest from Italian giants Lazio – Anelka has pledged not to bail out of The Hawthorns during the January transfer window.

‘Thanks to Lazio & all the others clubs who wanted to sign me this last days. See you this summer if I decide to continue…,’ he tweeted.

‘But the question is why should I leave my club & England? I’m happy here & I did nothing wrong…

‘So now it’s time to stay focus on my football with my club & I will try my best on the pitch like I always do !’

West Brom told Anelka not to repeat the goal celebration but intend to consider him for selection until the hearing. Anelka has requested a personal hearing but no date has yet been set.
